‘Racist Met Police must radically reform or be abolished after damning Casey report’
The Metropolitan Police , damned as racist, homophobic and misogynistic, is drinking in the last chance saloon. Either the tarnished force is radically and permanently reformed or it must be replaced. There is precedent for this, when the Police Service of Northern Ireland succeeded the discredited Royal Ulster Constabulary. With public confidence plummeting after a string of horrendous scandals – including the rape campaign by elite officer David Carrick and Wayne Couzens’ murder of Sarah Everard – Baroness Louise Casey’s report must not be put on a shelf to gather dust. We have, alas, been here before. It is dispiriting to recall that in 1999 the Macpherson Report after the murder of Stephen Lawrence also branded the Met institutionally racist. Black children in Britain are SIX times more likely to be strip-searched by police, ‘disturbing’ investigation finds
Black children are six times more likely to be strip-searched by police when compared with national population figures, an investigation has found. Almost 3,000 children as young as eight were strip-searched between 2018 and mid-2022, according to research from the children’s commissioner. And in 45 per cent of cases officers failed to record the location of the strip search, with some taking place in police vehicles and schools. Violent protests erupt in France with petrol bombs hurled at police van sparking explosion

Explosive demostrations have already begun at Saint Solines in central France, where climate activists are staging a "high-risk" protest against new agricultural irrigation infrastructure. The protest is distinct from the pension reform outcry that has blighted the country and seen widespread violence. Despite the global focus on the pension reform demonstrations, reports suggest that the police's greatest concern is the Saint Solines protest. Video footage from the scene shows protesters throwing petrol bombs and burning police vehicles. Flying objects pepper the battered line of vehicles as smoke billows into the air.
