I have 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a pool and a huge lot! I could NEVER afford that in the Bay Area! Plus, my children got excellent educations.Do you have plans of ever moving back to the Bay Area?I do not have "plans," I have dreams. San Francisco is my home. It's where I was born and raised. ‘I believe we have a lot to teach Russia in terms of free speech’
This article is available to Members of The Local. Read more articles for Members here. How would you say Sweden is seen in Russia; what connotations do people have? We do have hard data on this. We have attitude surveys by the Levada Centre which is the one independent polling agency in Russia, and their findings are strikingly consistent. Every year since 2014, two thirds of the Russian population have had a positive or very positive view of Sweden. It's varied between 63 and 67 percent [the survey has not yet been published for 2018, but last year the figure was 64 percent], so remarkably stable considering that in 2014 there was [the Russian annexation of] Crimea and Sweden was very vocal about that, then in 2015 we had the refugee crisis and quite frankly Russian TV in particular is basically all government-controlled, so the picture painted of Sweden was that we were 'swamped', 'it's ruining the economy', 'the crime rate is up', 'we're on the verge of a civil war', et … [Read more...] about ‘I believe we have a lot to teach Russia in terms of free speech’
Manitou Springs residents sue in quest for public vote on deal with Pikes Peak Cog Railway owners
Two Manitou Springs residents filed a lawsuit this week against the city, saying its charter allows the public to vote on a 50-year agreement that the City Council approved this summer giving tax incentives to the owners of the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to reconstruct and reopen the aging attraction.A citizens group tried last month to collect signatures on a petition that would void the agreement and put it on the ballot this fall, citing a provision in the city charter that allows such a referendum. But the Manitou Springs city clerk declined to review the petition, saying in a July 23 letter to the pair of residents who sought to initiate the ballot measure that the agreement was not subject to a referendum because it involves “contractual allegations of the city.”John Shada and Brenda Kay Gillen want a judge to intervene and rule that the Cog deal is subject to the city’s referendum petition process, according to a four-page complaint filed in 4th Judicial District … [Read more...] about Manitou Springs residents sue in quest for public vote on deal with Pikes Peak Cog Railway owners
Back in Colorado Springs, Daniel Nations says ‘I’m not what they made me out to be’
In his first 24 hours of freedom following 10 months in jail for various crimes in Colorado and Indiana, the now infamous Daniel Nations found himself walking through the front doors of The Gazette — an unlikely destination considering he says media ruined his life by associating him with three killings for which he’s never been charged. He’d come to clear his name.“I’m not what they made me out to be,” Nations said, his voice catching as he lifted his eyes to the ceiling in an effort to stave off tears. He’s back in Colorado Springs on probation and to regain custody of his two youngest children.Widespread speculation of Nations’ involvement in multiple killings sparked after his arrest in September for menacing locals with a hatchet in the same Mount Herman area where revered local bicyclist Tim Watkins was murdered, and snowballed when he was questioned in the deaths of two teens killed earlier in 2017 in Delphi, Ind.Months later, the … [Read more...] about Back in Colorado Springs, Daniel Nations says ‘I’m not what they made me out to be’
‘Modern’ steakhouse opening in former La Belle Vie space in Minneapolis
The hallowed dining ground that is 510 Groveland in Minneapolis, dark since January, is coming back to life. Jester Concepts, the crew behind Borough, Parlour, Monello and Constantine in Minneapolis and Parlour in St. Paul, is taking over the space, which had a brief life as 510 Lounge & Private Dining but is most famous for its longtime role as a fine-dining epicenter, initially as 510 Restaurant and then as nationally recognized La Belle Vie. The plan is for Jester culinary director Mike DeCamp to lead what he’s calling a “modern steakhouse” “I would say this is a ‘steakhouse,’ in air quotes,” he said with a laugh. “It has steakhouse leanings, but I don’t think it can be categorized as just another steakhouse.” DeCamp said that he plans to set the restaurant apart from its beef-and-baked potatoes brethren by focusing on seasonality. “And not necessarily have a focus that’s strictly on … [Read more...] about ‘Modern’ steakhouse opening in former La Belle Vie space in Minneapolis
