Fed-up Tesco shoppers are demanding more manned tills after struggling to use self-service check outs and 'missing human interaction' with staff. Scores of customers have taken to social media to implore the supermarket giant to stop 'replacing humans with machines', using the hashtag #bringbacktescostaff. The petition which launched the campaign has now received more than 100,000 signatures. Tesco told MailOnline today that it brought in self-service machines 20 years ago to give customers choice, adding that there are still staff manning tills. Invariable the bloody things find something wrong with my purchase, or my bag, or the way I'm looking at it, so I have to get staff over to fix it anyway.' Another said: 'A friendly face at a till improves customer experience hugely. It makes … [Read more...] about More than 100,000 sign petition calling on Tesco to ditch self-service checkouts and #BringBackTescoStaff

Farmers urge Aquino to support distribution of Hacienda Luisita lands
MANILA, Philippines—Euphoric over a favorable court ruling, farmers dared President Aquino on Wednesday to mobilize massive support services for their “difficult transition” to actual ownership of land in Hacienda Luisita. “This is an opportunity for him to show concern for the agrarian reform program,” said Christian Monsod, lead counsel for the Farmworkers Agrarian Reform Movement in Hacienda Luisita (FARM-Luisita). “He should make a model of Luisita. He should show some spunk ( gilas ), and help the farmers while they wait for the titles of their land.” Monsod said the farmer-beneficiaries (FBs) would lose the “welfare benefits” they have been enjoying from the Hacienda Luisita Inc. upon the start of the verification of the land titles, inspection of the estate, and the identification of the farmers by the Department of Agrarian Reform in the next six to 12 months. And during the “difficult transition” to their installation in their lands, the government should step in and … [Read more...] about Farmers urge Aquino to support distribution of Hacienda Luisita lands
Hawaii hurricane season forecasted to be slow with La Nina
HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii and the Central Pacific basin should expect two to four hurricanes, tropical depressions or tropical storms this year, federal forecasters said Wednesday. The annual National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration outlook predicts there is a 60% chance of a below-average season. The Central Pacific region sees about four or five tropical cyclones on average annually. Officials said below-average sea temperatures associated with La Nina east of Hawaii where storms form factored into this year’s prediction. “This year we are predicting less activity in the Central Pacific region compared to normal seasons,” said Matthew Rosencrans, NOAA’s lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at the Climate Prediction Center. “The ongoing La Nina is likely to cause strong vertical wind shear, making it more difficult for hurricanes to develop or move into the Central Pacific Ocean.” La Nina is a natural cooling of parts of the equatorial Pacific that alters weather patterns … [Read more...] about Hawaii hurricane season forecasted to be slow with La Nina
