Storm winding down today, but more rain-makers on tap for the Bay Area this week

March 22, 2023 by www.sfchronicle.com Leave a Comment

The strong storm that slammed the Bay Area on Tuesday with serious winds and rounds of rain showers is on its way out this morning, leaving a few light showers and south winds in its wake. Conditions will gradually continue to improve in the Bay Area and across California, as drier air rolls onto the West Coast. This air will keep most of California from being washed out by another round of heavy rainfall over the next couple of days. But two low-pressure systems are slated to approach Northern California by Thursday and Friday. These systems will be relatively weak, but have the potential to raise spotty showers in parts of the state, including the Bay Area. Depending on the duration of the dry air overhead, some of these rainfalls could be on the moderate end. A rain door that won’t fully shut The available energy in the atmosphere left behind by Tuesday’s storm will settle over parts of Southern California, the Central Coast and patches of the North Bay and East Bay. … [Read more...] about Storm winding down today, but more rain-makers on tap for the Bay Area this week

Now, it's pistachio trees as far as the eye can see. Far from mature, the pistachio saplings are just a few feet tall. The trees were planted for "miles and miles, clear up to the base of the mountain," said Walsh, a lifelong Kingman resident and head of Mohave County's Department of Development Services. Over the past decade, the vast desert area around the 33,000-person city of Kingman has been transformed into an agricultural enclave. Green alfalfa fields were first planted below the mountains, then eventually replaced with thirsty pistachio trees. But as those farms grow, county and city officials fear the groundwater -- their only source of water -- is not capable of supporting … [Read more...] about In deep-red corner of Arizona, threat of losing water starts to outweigh fear of regulation
