Struggling home goods chain Bed Bath & Beyond has named Target’s former chief merchandising officer to be its new CEO and president.The Union, New Jersey-based chain says that Mark J. Tritton, a 30-year-retail industry veteran, will assume the top role on Nov. 4. Tritton succeeds interim CEO Mary A. Winston.Shares of Bed Bath & Beyond soared more than 21% in after-market trading Wednesday following the announcement.During his three-year tenure at Target, Tritton revived private-label brands and launched more than 30 brands in 2 1/2 years. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a law banning most animals from circuses.The law exempts rodeos and does not apply to domesticated dogs, cats and horses. California is now the third state to enact such a ban, joining New Jersey and Hawaii.Circuses have been declining in popularity. The most well-known act, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, closed in 2017 after 146 years of performances.At least 18 circuses don’t use animals at all, including Cirque du Soleil. Democratic state Sen. Ben Hueso, who authored the bill, said animals in circuses endure cruel training and near constant environment. The country’s Justice Ministry said in a legislative notice published Thursday that the new amendment to South Korea’s Immigration Control Law is expected to take effect in a year. The new provision will ban a South Korean citizen with a record of domestic violence, irrespective of when it took place, from inviting foreigners to the country for marriage.
