Director Steven Spielberg and cast member Michelle Williams attend a premiere for the film “The Fabelmans” during the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, California, USA, Nov. 6, 2022. Image: Reuters/Mario Anzuoni LOS ANGELES—More movie theaters this weekend will be showing “The Fablemans,” “Tar” and “Women Talking,” a move to capitalize on the films’ Oscar nominations at a time when dramas are struggling to draw people to cinemas. After moviegoing plunged during the pandemic, audiences have returned in droves to action-packed blockbusters such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The “Avatar” sequel has raked in more than $2 billion, ranking as the sixth-highest grossing film of all time. Many of the Hollywood dramas targeted at adult viewers have not fared nearly as well. Some older moviegoers simply have not returned to the local megaplex, industry executives told Reuters. Others have decided to wait to stream movies that do not have a visual spectacle that pops off … [Read more...] about Oscar contenders court box-office bounce as drama audiences dwindle

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King’s museum plan for Buckingham Palace

January 27, 2023 by www.dailymail.co.uk Leave a Comment

Prince Andrew 's eviction from his Buckingham Palace bedroom along with his beloved teddies is part of King Charles's plan to convert the Palace from the monarch's home to offices, function rooms and a museum, whispers a royal source. The £369million ten-year rebuilding project has switched emphasis since the death of the Queen to allow a radical rethink of the Palace's role as Monarchy HQ. Since Charles's accession he has used Buck House for audiences, a state visit and the annual diplomatic reception. 'The King and Queen Consort wish to stay at Clarence House as their private home,' adds my source. Charles is also considering raising substantial funds by eventually opening the palace to the public all year around. With Andrew possibly located in nearby St James's Palace might he follow his brother's example and open a teddy bear museum to help his cash flow? ‘The Hunger’s’ Kenneth Karlstadt on His Restless New Series ‘Kids In Crime’

January 27, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Click here to read the full article. Filmmaker Kenneth Karlstadt has conjured a chaotic coming of age story, “Kids In Crime,” for Norway’s TV2. The writer-director grew the project out from his well received short, “The Hunger,” into eight short episodes. It’s a format hoped to attract younger audiences aged 16-22, who are surrounded by many alternative forms of entertainment through social media, games, and streamers. It is unclear how well this strategy worked, but the show proved to be one of 2022’s most successful shows for TV2, according to Brede Havland, producer for Einar Film Drama. It has also been nominated for the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2023 .
