After moviegoing plunged during the pandemic, audiences have returned in droves to action-packed blockbusters such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The “Avatar” sequel has raked in more than $2 billion, ranking as the sixth-highest grossing film of all time. The £369million ten-year rebuilding project has switched emphasis since the death of the Queen to allow a radical rethink of the Palace's role as Monarchy HQ. Since Charles's accession he has used Buck House for audiences, a state visit and the annual diplomatic reception. The BAFTA nominations were announced on Thursday and 14 of the 24 nominees in the performance categories received their first BAFTA Film nod. Ana de Armas , 34, Austin Butler , 31, and Paul Mescal, 26, were among the first time nominees for their work in Blonde, Elvis and Aftersun respectively. The nominations were announced by Hayley Atwell and Toheeb Jimoh on Thursday, ahead of next month's ceremony for the 76th annual film awards set to be hosted by actor Richard E Grant and TV presenter Alison Hammond .
