EXCLUSIVE: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Republican Sen. Mike Braun are rolling out a measure Thursday that would prevent Democrats from "weaponizing" the Internal Revenue Service to target conservatives, by codifying a Trump-era rule that would protect groups regardless of their political ideology, and prevent the IRS from doxing donors, Fox News has learned. Fox News exclusively obtained the legislation on Wednesday, titled the "Don’t Weaponize the IRS Act," which would ensure that certain tax-exempt groups are no longer required to provide the names and addresses of major donors on annual returns filed with the IRS. close Video IRS could use Inflation Reduction Act's spending boost to target conservative groups NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! The IRS will once again target conservatives and push a political agenda if the agency gets the additional $80 billion proposed under the Inflation Reduction Act, a woman who organized for a Tea Party group swept up in the 2013 targeting scandal told Fox News. The Senate on Sunday passed the Inflation Reduction Act , which includes $80 billion in spending for the IRS over 10 years, with more than half of that intended for enforcement. That funding level could add an additional 87,000 employees over that time period to the 82,000 currently on staff, the Biden administration projected last year. "Knowing how weaponized the IRS interest has been and still is, it's easy to imagine what it's going to become once they double the number of agents," Texas Tea Party Patriots PAC co-founder Suzanne … [Read more...] about IRS will use Inflation Reduction Act’s spending boost to target conservative groups: Tea Party group founder

Gordon Brown today called for energy firms to be re-nationalised as a “last resort” over soaring bills until “the crisis is over”. The former Prime Minister said the energy price cap should be frozen - which would axe plans for it to go up from £1,971 now to around £3,600 in October and over £4,200 in January. Energy supplies’ ‘actual costs’ should be assessed, social tariffs and standing charges made fairer, and separate company agreements negotiated to keep prices down, he said, while businesses should cut consumption. Mr Brown - who bailed out the banks in the financial crash - wrote in The Guardian: “If the companies cannot meet these new requirements, we should consider all the options we used with the banks in 2009. “Guaranteed loans, equity financing and, if this fails, as a last resort, operate their essential services from the public sector until the crisis is over.” He said decisions must be made within days, including on October payments for the vulnerable, … [Read more...] about Energy firms that can’t keep bills down should be nationalised, Gordon Brown demands
