Patriots packers win loss record
Sixteen thoughts on the Patriots’ 16-10 win over the Bills . . . 1. I suppose it’s mildly encouraging the Patriots can submit a troubling offensive performance — they totaled just 224 yards, didn’t drive for a touchdown after their second possession, and had just 11 total first downs — and still come away with a win on the road against a worthy opponent. Bad days for most teams lead to an L in the loss column. The Patriots remain undefeated, and that’s certainly better than the alternative they flirted with for much of Sunday afternoon: Losing to an inspired Bills team that nearly beat them despite some dubious coaching decisions and generally poor play from young quarterback Josh Allen. 2. Make no mistake, the Bills exposed some real issues with the Patriots offense. Brady finished 18 of 39 for 150 yards, with no touchdowns and an end-zone interception by Micah Hyde. Nothing came easy. The line leaked and the Bills pressured consistently … [Read more...] about 16 thoughts on the Patriots’ 16-10 win over the Bills
Brissett would have looked awfully nice in a Patriots uniform this season, preparing to take over for Brady in 2020 or ’21. His play for the Colts, who improved to 2-1, is where we begin the Week 3 review: ■ The Colts said all preseason that they believe Brissett is a top-20 quarterback, and he is proving it so far. Making his 20th career start Sunday, Brissett had the best game of his career: 28 of 37 passing, 310 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He completed his first 16 passes, and also led a five-minute touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to essentially seal the win. “You can’t play quarterback much better than he played today,’’ Colts coach Frank Reich said. “This is the standard. Not that you can play this great every week, but this is what you expect, and he delivered.’’ The Colts weren’t totally fazed by Andrew Luck’s retirement in August because they believed in Brissett. He is … [Read more...] about Jacoby Brissett was one the Patriots shouldn’t have let get away
Nate Davis USA TODAY Published 9:06 AM EDT Jul 22, 2019 Take it from me, few things are more fun (if thankless) than the prediction business. So, with training camp doors swinging open, it's time to reveal my now-annual NFL record projections. The methodology? Using the latest pre-camp info, I predict all 256 regular-season games on the 2019 schedule, letting the chips fall where they may. From there, I add bonus prognostications for all 11 postseason contests. The results? Well, I've correctly forecast a Super Bowl eight months ahead of schedule (Seahawks over Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII) ... and also had some spectacular misses, including way-off-base outlooks for Seattle and Indianapolis just a year ago (both teams reached the postseason, of course, avoiding last-place finishes I envisioned). But 2018 produced extra fun when Seahawks LBs Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright kindly (and correctly) dismissed my predictive powers. Wagner even followed up to rib me after … [Read more...] about Detroit Lions will have NFL’s worst record in 2019, writer says
The Patriots’ 2019 NFL schedule was released Wednesday during the Celtics and Bruins‘ playoff games and while the Red Sox blew a lead to the Yankees. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady open their Super Bowl LIII title defense on Sept. 8 against the Steelers, and the schedule features high-profile games against the Browns and Chiefs throughout the season. Here is what five experts across the NFL are saying about the Patriots’ 2019 slate of games: Mike Reiss, ESPN.com: Patriots predicted record: 11-5 Reiss noted that this is the fourth consecutive season the Patriots’ bye week comes in a “great spot.” Last season, their bye week was after 10 games; in 2016 and 2017, after eight games. The Patriots’ bye week in 2019 is scheduled for Week 10, in between road games against the Ravens and Eagles in November, coming close to splitting the season evenly in half for the team. A notable moment on the schedule: The Patriots visit the Dolphins in Miami in Week … [Read more...] about What experts are saying about the Patriots’ 2019 schedule
