Kiz: Are we there yet? The Broncos awoke Monday four long weeks away from their NFL season-opener Sept 12 in Seattle. Wearing a full uniform, new quarterback Russell Wilson jogged onto the grass at his new home stadium Saturday night, went through his pre-game routine, then watched Broncos subs dominate the penalty-plagued Cowboys with nearly 65,000 fans in attendance. Ho. Hum. In the name of entertainment value, as well as fine-tuning the offense, do you want to see Wilson and the No. 1 unit play this weekend at Buffalo? O’Halloran: Yes, it’s time for Wilson to make a brief appearance Saturday against the Bills. But not the entire No. 1 offense. A top objective of this training camp has been developing continuity among the offensive line (minus injured right tackle Billy Turner). If I’m coach Nathaniel Hackett, I trot out the top line with Wilson under center for two possessions. Keep it simple to protect Wilson (no deep drop-backs, six- and seven-man protections if he does … [Read more...] about Kiszla vs. O’Halloran: Does Russell Wilson and the No. 1 Broncos’ offense need to play vs. Buffalo?

Broncos sign Joe Schobert, activate Randy Gregory, Billy Turner
The Broncos signed veteran inside linebacker Joe Schobert and activated outside linebacker Randy Gregory and right tackle Billy Turner from the physically unable to perform list before practice Monday. Schobert, who worked out for the Broncos early in camp, was signed as insurance for Jonas Griffith. Griffith sustained a left elbow injury in Saturday’s win over Dallas. According to a league source, Griffith will not require surgery and remains possible to play in Week 1 at Seattle. Gregory (shoulder) and Turner (knee) are eligible to participate in walk-throughs and full practice now that they are no longer on the PUP list. Both missed the entirety of the offseason program. The Broncos waived/injured guard Ben Braden, who sustained a back injury last Tuesday. Schobert (6-foot-1, 240 pounds) has played in 93 games (80 starts) for Cleveland, Jacksonville and Pittsburgh, totaling 647 tackles, 11 sacks and 10 interceptions. He entered the league as a fourth-round pick by the … [Read more...] about Broncos sign Joe Schobert, activate Randy Gregory, Billy Turner
Giancarlo Stanton is getting closer to return to Yankee lineup, but still not imminent
BOSTON — The Yankees are optimistic they will see Giancarlo Stanton on the field Monday. The slugger, who has missed 18 games with left Achilles tendinitis, will be a welcome sight for a team coming off a 2-7 road trip that featured their mighty lineup getting shut out three times. But Stanton will only work out before the Yankees start a four-game series with the Rays in the Bronx to see how his leg feels — but he’s still at least some days away from being back in the Bombers lineup. Since Stanton went on the injured list, July 24, the Yankees have gone 7-11. Their offense, which is still second in the majors in OPS and runs scored, has been inconsistent lately and that has been in part because of players like Stanton being out. “I mean, it’s gonna happen over a long haul,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees were shutout by the Red Sox to end the nine-game trip. “We’ve got some guys banged up, obviously some guys in and out. I think I try and take a bigger … [Read more...] about Giancarlo Stanton is getting closer to return to Yankee lineup, but still not imminent
Why Rico Blanco is ‘nervous’ about his coming Big Dome concert
Rico Blanco Playing live gigs is something Rico Blanco doesn’t normally find daunting. But this upcoming one is different. On Sept. 11, he will take the stage at the Araneta Coliseum. And though he’s no stranger to the iconic venue, his previous outings there were co-headlining events: with Kitchie Nadal in 2005 (as frontman of Rivermaya); and with Yeng Constantino and Gloc-9 in 2014. The fact that this is the first big show since the pandemic hit also stirs jitters. “I think it’s because there has been a long gap. And I really want to give people a great time. I’m really just the one stressing myself out. I can simply go out there and play. But I want this night to be unforgettable for the fans,” he told the Inquirer in an interview for his self-titled concert produced by KDR Music House and Wish. “I thought I would be the second or third in KDR’s planned lineup of shows. But knowing that I’m the first one to go made me a little nervous,” he admitted. “It’s also my first time … [Read more...] about Why Rico Blanco is ‘nervous’ about his coming Big Dome concert
Astros’ Alex Bregman hits home run for Uvalde girl who asked him to go yard
You ask. Alex Bregman delivers. The Houston Astros third baseman notched a two-run homer in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics, helping the team to a 6-3 victory on the day and fulfilling a request made by a young fan in attendance. Welcome to Sunday Service. pic.twitter.com/HsAZsspBry — Houston Astros (@astros) August 14, 2022 Bregman told reporters his two-run shot off Oakland's Cole Irvin was for a young girl from Uvalde, Texas he'd spoken to prior to the game. One of 500 Uvalde community members bussed in by the Astros and given free tickets to Sunday's game, she'd asked Bregman to hit a home run—a request he fulfilled in short order. "It was really cool," Bregman told reporters after the game, per FOX 26's Mark Berman. "Anything we can do for them. I'm glad they were here today...as soon as I got to the dugout Dusty [Baker] said 'Hey, you hit one for Uvalde.' So it was nice." Before the game a young girl from Uvalde asked … [Read more...] about Astros’ Alex Bregman hits home run for Uvalde girl who asked him to go yard
Opinion: Root, root, root for the Rockies. Even if they hardly ever win.
“Let’s ride” is the battle cry of Denver’s latest quarterback hopeful, Russell Wilson (love him!!!). But before delving too deeply into the frenzied atmosphere of pro football, kick back some lazy afternoon in Coors Field at a Rockies game. Yes, the team has been mired at or near the bottom of the NL West and unless they start tearing up the bases, won’t make the playoffs for the fourth straight year. So what if the baseball gods haven’t smiled down and granted Colorado a winning season lately? The faithful know it’s not always about that. What it is about is letting yourself soak up as many tranquil and fun-filled moments as possible in a safe, outdoor space after being cooped up during that darn pandemic. It’s about coming together to enjoy a sport that’s a lot less raucous than testosterone-driven football, basketball, and hockey. No shade … just the truth. There’s nothing like watching Charlie Blackmon or Randal Grichuk swing for the fences and send one arcing over … [Read more...] about Opinion: Root, root, root for the Rockies.
