LET’S hope that the Government means it this time. Yesterday, Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she will ban police from recording trivial “non-crime hate incidents”. The whole concept, she said, was “Orwellian”. She added: “Non-crime hate incidents must not distract the police from their core duties, they should not be used to inhibit free speech.” Fine words, indeed. ‘Unacceptable’ to bar, limit access of police aviation security, Dela Rosa tells airport execs
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa speaks during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum in this file photo taken on March 1, 2023. INQUIRER.net / Ryan Leagogo MANILA, Philippines — Airport officials got a mouthful from Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday for supposedly barring the police aviation security group from entering the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia). According to Dela Rosa, he was told by members of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEG) that they are no longer allowed inside the Naia. He said it would be “a very immature reaction” and could compromise airport security if the supposed change in policy was a result of the Senate probe on alleged human smuggling at the Naia. But Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Cesar Chiong immediately denied this during the hearing of the Senate blue ribbon committee. “No sir, that’s not true sir. In fact, during our coordination meeting with the PNP-AVSEG, it … [Read more...] about ‘Unacceptable’ to bar, limit access of police aviation security, Dela Rosa tells airport execs

Before His Death, I Asked the Manhattan D.A. What His Greatest Fear Was. He Answered: ‘Trump.’
IN THE SUMMER OF 2019, when Robert M. Morgenthau, who reigned over New York law enforcement for six decades, died, 10 days short of his 100th birthday, eulogies filled the newspapers, the governor ordered flags to half-staff, and the man in the White House weighed in. “I was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Bob Morgenthau, a truly great man!” Donald Trump wrote on Twitter. Mr. Morgenthau, who had served as district attorney for 35 years and before that spent nearly a decade as the U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York, was “a warrior for our Country that he loved so dearly,” Mr. Trump tweeted. He added minutes later, “Bob Morgenthau, a legend, will be greatly missed!” Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, may bring an indictment against Mr. Trump — the first time that a former U.S. president would be charged with criminal wrongdoing. Mr. Trump has said he will be arrested. Beneath Mr. Trump’s shrill defense lies four decades of history: a … [Read more...] about Before His Death, I Asked the Manhattan D.A. For Years She Said a Coach Abused Her. Now She Has Named a Legend.
In 2018, Jennifer Fox made an Emmy-nominated film called “The Tale” about her pieced-together memories of what she now describes as childhood sexual abuse. Laura Dern starred in the HBO drama, in which Fox unspooled what she remembered about the relationship she had as a 13-year-old with her 40-year-old coach. The details were horrific and unsettling, and the lingering pain of the main character, also called Jennifer, was palpable. But the coach was given a pseudonym in the lightly fictionalized film. Now, a half century after the relationship ended in 1973, Fox has come forward with the name of the man who she said abused her. She said it was Ted Nash, a two-time Olympic medalist in rowing and nine-time Olympic coach who had mythic status in the sport. Early in his athletic career, Nash also coached girls and women in running. “He was a very esteemed, very talented manipulator and beloved and looked good and acted right and had all the right credentials,” Fox told The … [Read more...] about For Years She Said a Coach Abused Her. Comelec urged to defer COC filing for barangay, SK polls
Senator Francis Tolentino answers media questions on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Senate in Pasay City. (Photo by Daniza Fernandez) MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has been asked to defer the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections as it is “too early” and will “burden” local government units. Senator Francis Tolentino said on Monday that he told the poll body to move the COC filing to August instead of July . “Ako po ay nakiusap sa Commission on Elections na i-postpone ang filing ng certificate of candidacy sa August, ‘wag po sa July dahil napakaaga po ng July,” the senator told reporters in an interview at the Senate. Prince Harry’s charity partners believe boyhood should be ‘fluid’ as it aims to destroy the phrase ‘boys will be boys’
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in partnership with a group that wants boyhood to be seen as 'fluid' and aims to destroy the phrase 'boys will be boys'. Prince Harry and Meghan's organisation Archewell and podcast Archetypes now have a partnership with the Global Boyhood Initiative, a group which 'promotes gender equity by fostering positive masculinity in boys and men'. A report written by the group, named 'The State of UK Boys', suggested that families can be gender 'factories' by 'enacting gender roles and identities' and that parents can 'gender' their children before they are even born. It reads: 'Parents may begin gendering their children even before birth based on the identification of external genitalia in scans, including through elaborate 'gender reveal' parties and a stream of purchases along gender lines. 'While the family is a place of nurturing and support for many children, it can also be where gender and sexuality are regulated and policed.' … [Read more...] about Prince Harry’s charity partners believe boyhood should be ‘fluid’ as it aims to destroy the phrase ‘boys will be boys’
‘Jugging’ among new crime trends posing danger on America’s streets: What to know
close Video Travel risk trainer and LAPD veteran Kevin Coffey explains 3 crime trends "Jugging," "tap and glue" and "sliders" are recent crime trends that impact everyday Americans, Kevin Coffey explains. Everyday, routine activities – like going to the ATM or getting gas – can become crime scenes of low-level offenses that create major headaches and financial loss. A phony good Samaritan says you dropped a wallet at the gas pump or a cheerful, chatty chap can't stop complimenting your outfit. These are all part of street-level crime trends designed to prey on distracted victims to grab a purse, phone or wallet and take off. All they need is a few seconds, in most instances. The Government Protects Our Food and Cars. Why Not Our Data?
After Apple discovered in June that certain MacBook laptops could overheat, posing a fire hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission quickly issued a warning, along with information about consumer burns and smoke inhalation. But after Apple learned that its FaceTime video chat app was enabling consumers to listen in on the conversations of people they called — even when the recipients did not answer their phones — there was no designated federal protection agency to warn Americans or collect reports of privacy invasions. After Fitbit wristbands began causing people to develop skin rashes and blisters a few years ago, the consumer safety agency announced a recall of about one million of the fitness-tracking devices. But after Strava, a popular fitness-tracking app, posted a granular map of its users’ workout routines last year, exposing their locations — including for personnel on remote military bases in Iraq — there was no agency to alert people to the risks or stop … [Read more...] about The Government Protects Our Food and Cars.
