A 1-year-old North Carolina girl died Friday after being left inside a hot car, making her at least the tenth child nationwide to die in an overheated vehicle this year, according to a group which tracks such deaths. The child died in Mebane, about 32 miles east of Greensboro, Kids and Car Safety said. She was the fourth child to die in similar circumstances this week, the nonprofit said. Mebane police officers received a call just before 12:25 p.m. about a cardiac arrest, FOX 8 reported. Upon arrival, CPR was being administered to the child. The father of the child reportedly left her in the vehicle. Investigators have not determined how long the child inside. No charges were filed as of Friday afternoon. WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden predicted on Friday (July 1) that some US states will try to arrest women for crossing state lines to get abortions after the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to the procedures nationwide. Thirteen Republican-led states banned or severely restricted the procedure under so-called "trigger laws" after the court struck down the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling last week. Women in those states seeking an abortion may have to travel to states where it remains legal. A SUSPECT has reportedly been arrested in the case of a young mother who was shot dead while pushing her baby in a stroller. The arrest comes after Azsia Johnson , 20, was shot in the head around 8.30pm on Wednesday while pushing her three-month-old daughter in a stroller in New York City. The 22-year-old father of her three-month-old baby was a person of interest, according to CBS . The Brooklyn arrest was announced by local station PIX11 News . The New York Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that Johnson was pushing the stroller on the Upper East Side of Manhattan when someone approached her and shot her in the head in what is believed to be a targeted attack. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday signed a new state law that will stop police from arresting people for loitering for prostitution, an issue that divided sex workers and advocates during a rare nine-month delay since state lawmakers passed the bill last year. “To be clear, this bill does not legalize prostitution," Newsom said in a signing message. “It simply revokes provisions of the law that have led to disproportionate harassment of women" and transgender adults, he said, nothing that Black and Latino women are particularly affected. The bill will bar police in California from arresting anyone for loitering with the intent to engage in prostitution. Sen. Scott Wiener and other supporters said such arrest decisions often rely on an officer’s perception.
