North Korea gas attack threat: Japan warns Kim can deploy SARIN used in Syria
Shinzo Abe said today that the nuke-mad nation may have the capacity to launch a warhead armed with sarin. That’s the same nerve agent used by Bashar al-Assad to gas his own people in Khan Shaykhun, Syria. At least 74 people died in the attack, which led to the US bombing a Syrian government base. Now Mr Abe fears that his country, which is well within range of Kim’s missiles, could be hit with it. "There is a possibility that North Korea is already capable of delivering a warhead containing sarin," he said. Japan is no stranger to the toxic gas, which is so deadly that it’s generally considered a weapon of mass destruction. In 1995, the Tokyo subway was targeted by members of the Aum Shinrikyo cult who used sarin to kill 12 people and injured thousands. Mr Abe made his warning at a meeting of Japan’s parliamentary diplomacy and defence committee, reported by broadcaster NHK. It’s been predicated that North Korea will detonate a nuclear weapon to mark the Day of the Sun … [Read more...] about North Korea gas attack threat: Japan warns Kim can deploy SARIN used in Syria

One way to make a huge difference
On Tuesday leaders from the Group of 7 industrialized nations are wrapping up a summit in Germany, and climate was supposed to be one of the main items on the agenda. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. The meeting was dominated by the war in Ukraine , very much at the expense of climate . We thought it would be a good moment to talk about what rich industrialized countries actually could be doing to help less wealthy countries prepare for a warmer world. There’s a system of financial institutions, known as multilateral development banks, already in place to help fund economic and social development projects, including climate initiatives, in these countries. The most powerful one is the World Bank. There are smaller, regional development banks, too. The World Bank has unique power and tools to help developing countries prepare for climate change. But critics say it’s not doing enough. In the last year, the United Nations secretary general , António Guterres, and … [Read more...] about One way to make a huge difference

US has the LOWEST life expectancy of all G7 nations: Alarming analysis shows America now isn’t even in the world’s top 50
The US has the lowest life expectancy of all Seventy years ago people in America could expect to live until they were 68, with the country ranking 13th globally behind the likes of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Although the average person now lives a decade longer than in 1950, progress has stalled compared to other developed nations. The US has since fallen to 53 on the global standings. Britain has also fared badly, dropping from tenth to 36th in a UN list of 200 nations. Experts suggested the sluggish progress was likely down to the health inequalities widening, resulting in poorer social groups dying earlier than the wealthy. The graph shows how each G7 country fared in international life expectancy rankings each year from 1950 to 2020. While Japan climbed from 45th place to third, the UK slumped from 10th to 36th and the US plummeted from 13th to 53rd. It is based on data from academics from the University of Oxford and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical … [Read more...] about US has the LOWEST life expectancy of all G7 nations: Alarming analysis shows America now isn’t even in the world’s top 50
