Rices Fire: All evacuation orders lifted as fire holds at 904 acres

The wildfire , fueled by dry vegetation and drought-stressed trees, was 65% contained as of Monday morning, Cal Fire reported. Hundreds of people have been displaced by the fire after evacuation orders forced people to flee their homes last month. Firefighters have so far been successful in preventing the blaze from crossing the Yuba River. Fifteen firefighters and one civilian have been injured so far in combating the Rices Fire, and 13 structures destroyed, according to Cal Fire’s incident report. 5 shot, 1 killed in downtown Sacramento shooting
Four adults were injured, and one killed, in a shooting earlier this morning close to the state capitol building in Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department. The shooting occured outside the nightclub Mix Downtown at 16th and L Streets. A police spokesperson, Officer Ryan Woo, said the deceased victim is an adult male. According to KCRA 3 News , the victim’s family has identified him as Greg Najee Grimes, 31, who worked as an assistant football coach and teacher at Inderkum High School. He has a son. “We want people to know what many have lost today,” family told the station. “A friend, a coach, a teacher, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a son and most importantly a father.” The four other victims are in stable condition at area hospitals, Woo said. Northern California 2nd-grader allegedly brings gun, ammo to school
A second-grade student at a public elementary school in Sacramento allegedly brought a gun and ammunition to school on Tuesday, coincidentally the same day as the tragic shooting that left 21 dead in a school in Texas. According to a letter sent to parents by the Sacramento City Unified School District, school staff was alerted to the gun by classmates of the student who brought it. A search was immediately undertaken, and the weapon and a loaded magazine were found in a classroom desk at Edward Kemble Elementary School in south Sacramento. Sacramento police were called and secured the weapon and evidence. The style and make of the weapon was not disclosed. Premier League international footballer arrested on suspicion of raping woman
A PREMIER League international footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape. The player, who is in his late 20s and is due to play at the World Cup in Qatar in November, was detained in north London in the early hours of this morning. Scotland Yard confirmed the footballer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is currently in custody. He is being quizzed over an alleged attack which is said to have taken place last month.
