Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested a woman accused of attacking a man earlier this month for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat inside a Mexican restaurant in Falmouth, the agency said Tuesday. Rosiane Santos, 41, who was charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct after police say she lashed out against 23-year-old Bryton Turner on Feb. 15, is an “unlawfully present citizen of Brazil,” ICE spokesman John Mohan said in a statement to Boston.com. Santos was arrested Tuesday near Falmouth by deportation officers with ICE’s Fugitive Operations Team, he said. “She is presently in ICE custody and has been entered into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” Mohan said in the statement. When reached by phone Tuesday afternoon, Santos directed questions to her immigration attorney, Katarina Kozakova. In an interview, Kozakova said Santos has a pending green card application and is married to a U.S. … [Read more...] about A woman allegedly assaulted a man in a ‘MAGA’ hat. Red hat restaurant
A Falmouth woman is facing charges after police there say she verbally harassed and physically assaulted a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap at a restaurant earlier this month. Authorities say Rosiane Santos, 41, perpetuated the confrontation between her and 23-year-old Bryton Turner, of Mashpee, as he took in a night out with friends at Casa Vallarta Mexican Restaurant on Davis Straits on Feb. 15. In video taken by Turner posted to Facebook, Santos is seen knocking the hat off his head and pushing his head down. Turner told police he was minding his own business when Santos “began to verbally assault him” because of his hat, Falmouth Police Officer Newton Cardoso wrote in an incident report. Santos told Cardoso that Turner was a “motherf*****” for supporting President Donald Trump and that Turner should not be allowed in a Mexican restaurant while wearing the red hat, according to the report filed in Falmouth District Court. “See … [Read more...] about A woman allegedly assaulted a man in a local Mexican restaurant for wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat
SAN MATEO, Calif. — Patrons won't be served at a Silicon Valley restaurant if they wear a "Make America Great Again" baseball cap. J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, a chef-partner of the Wursthall restaurant in San Mateo, California, said in a tweet last weekend that he views the hats as symbols of intolerance and hate. "It hasn't happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren't getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate," the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday. The tweet was no longer available Thursday but the newspaper reported it had more than 2,100 likes and more than 200 retweets as of Wednesday afternoon. The red hats, which are sold on President Donald Trump's campaign website, have become polarizing. The hats were worn by some Kentucky high school students involved in a Jan. 18 confrontation with a Native American elder near the Lincoln Memorial. Lopez-Alt wrote the 2015 book … [Read more...] about Silicon Valley eatery bans ‘Make America Great Again’ hats

Maple Syrup and PancakesLike tea in Britain, sushi in Japan and tapas in Spain, some cliched food and travel pairings simply turn out to be true. And mighty tasty. My latest trip to Canada, roaming through western cities of Vancouver, Winnipeg and Calgary, provided plenty of time to soak up the sweet, sticky goodness of maple syrup and pancakes…In Vancouver, I met them among sugar-puffed bannock and thick, strong coffee. In Winnipeg, I found them in bare-brick diners, watching the Assiniboine River river glide by. Calgary showed me waffle machines plus the cubed plastic for maple syrup. And in Williams Lake, my pancake came complete with a cowboy hat and dashingly polite cowboy. But it was Edmonton, green and grid-like Edmonton, that really took my tastebuds out for a ride. The Best Restaurants in EdmontonThere to cover the Street Performer’s Festival, I had more time, perhaps, to roam around the city, to reach beyond the deep-fried carnival stands and Beaver … [Read more...] about The Best Restaurants in Edmonton: Beyond Maple Syrup & Pancakes
