Latvia threatens Olympic boycott if Russians compete

February 1, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

RIGA, Latvia (AP) — Latvia has threatened to boycott next year's Paris Olympics if Russian athletes are allowed to take part during the war in Ukraine and is calling on other countries to form a coalition to pressure international sports bodies. The Latvian Olympic Committee is the first national Olympic body other than Ukraine to threaten to boycott rather than compete against Russia. It marks a rare challenge from within the sports world to the International Olympic Committee, which wants to let competitors from Russia and ally Belarus take part as “neutral athletes.” The national Olympic committees who send the teams have mostly stayed quiet or backed the IOC, even as politicians in many European countries have said Russia shouldn't return to competition. “For as long as there is an ongoing war in Ukraine, participation of the Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Olympic Games under any flag is unacceptable,” Latvian Olympic Committee president Žoržs Tikmers said in a … [Read more...] about Latvia threatens Olympic boycott if Russians compete

February 1, 2023 by www.dailymail.co.uk Leave a Comment

This is the shocking moment a Russian tank commander accidentally took out his own comrades with the vehicle's turret. In a clip posted by Ukraine's Ministry of Defence on Twitter , the tank first swerves past another armoured vehicle - which appears to be on fire. It then goes to pass by another fellow tank - lined with troops - but the turret accidentally sweeps at least five soldiers from where they are sitting in an apparent own goal. One of the fallen men appears to have difficulty getting back to his feet but the others appear to be unscathed and flee the scene. The ministry mocked the Russian army in the caption, saying: 'The biggest threat to mobilised Russian infantry are mobilised Russian tankmen.' This is the shocking moment a Russian tank commander accidentally took out his own comrades with the vehicle's turret The tank had first passed by another armoured vehicle, which appears to be on fire The aftermath of the destruction saw the … [Read more...] about Tanks for nothing!
