China Railway Sixth Group Co., Ltd. has called for concluding the months-long testing phase by the end of the first quarter to begin operations in April, according to the Ministry of Transport. The ministry has ordered the Railway Project Management Board and the Hanoi Metro Company to review the work before making a decision. The state-owned Chinese firm has been carrying out trial runs along the 13-kilometer (8-mile) line since last September, and three to six months is the normal testing period. However, some 4 percent of other works such as pathways and terminals are yet to be completed. Once the testing concludes, it will be assessed for safety by the Vietnam Register and an independent French unit before being handed over to Hanoi authorities for commercial operation. If the proposal of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to build the third terminal for Tan Son Nhat International Airport is approved, the construction of the airport will be started in the third quarter of 2020. ACV awaits the prime minister's approval for the third terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport ACV has submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) proposing the prime minister to approve the investment planning for Tan Son Nhat’s third terminal. Accordingly, the third terminal, which covers an area of 100,000 square metres, will handle 20 million passengers per year. The project will have a total investment capital of VND11.65 trillion ($506.5 million), invested by ACV and will be recouped within 23 years.
