Vietnam Marine Department is eyeing the national budget or foreign aid to add five search and rescue vessels (SAR) to their insufficient number. A source from the department told the Ministry of Transport-run newspaper Giao Thong on Monday a new SAR which can withstand wind speed of 75-88 kph with a fuel tank capacity of 200-tons will soon be built. The new vessel can run a continuous operation for as long as 15 days. The Ministry of Transport has aprproved the proposal and is now reviewing the project design to assess its feasibility. The department said it wants to build four more SARs by tapping into the Official Development Aid or seeking developed countries' help to use their used rescue vessels. Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center currently has only seven search and rescue specialized vessels. Ramona’s Trainer: The body-mind connection
“You have to push past what you think you can’t do to get to what you ultimately can do!”Ever since I was a young boy spending time with my dad, Pete San Nicolas, Vietnam vet, Airborne Ranger, Long Range Recon Patrol (LRRP), I’ve loved watching action war movies. My dad, ever the patriot, on a recon mission stepped on a land mine and was blown to pieces. They pieced him back together without his legs, only one eye, and a mangled left arm with missing bones and a missing finger. Being awarded a Purple Heart, he persevered, recovered, and after three years in the hospital and rehab was able to bring his whole family from the small island of Guam to the mainland, where he met my mother, Valeri, and later had my sister, Nikki, and me, Peter. It’s amazing what the human body can do when the mind is strong. Yesterday I watched the film, “American Sniper,” which documents the life of one of the most effective Navy Seal snipers in the history of America, … [Read more...] about Ramona’s Trainer: The body-mind connection
Nathan Carman’s insurance trial comes to a close
PROVIDENCE — Nathan Carman thought his boat was in good working order when he left Point Judith, R.I., on a fishing trip three years ago, but something “fairly catastrophic” caused it to sink rapidly, causing his mother’s death, Carman’s lawyer said Wednesday. “Mr. Carman would never go out there with his mom in the middle of nowhere if he felt the boat was going to sink,” Carman’s lawyer, David F. Anderson, said during closing arguments Wednesday in a civil insurance trial over Carman’s efforts to collect $85,000 for the loss of the vessel. “Something let go in that boat.” In a 90-minute statement that capped the eight-day federal trial, Anderson argued that the 31-foot Chicken Pox was in poor condition when Carman bought it nine months before it sank, its problems masked by a good paint job and bonding. But a lawyer for two insurers countered that Carman, a Vermont man under investigation for the deaths of his … [Read more...] about Nathan Carman’s insurance trial comes to a close
