Grillen - the German word for barbecue - goes with summer just like lakes, beer and World Cup football. While the latter didn’t work out so well in 2018, this weekend’s German Barbecue Championships gives one lucky team the chance to bring home some silverware - and a cool €12,000 We’ve all got that friend who comes to the barbecue and likes to commandeer the grill, grabbing the tongs out of someone else’s hands to show everyone how it's done. If you love barbecues but can’t think of someone in your group of friends who fits that description, then that person is probably you. This Sunday will see the crowning of the Deutsche Grillkönig - the German Barbecue King - at the 23rd German Grilling and Barbecue Championships in Fulda. Forty teams - separated into professional and amateur divisions - in total will complete for the crown. The professionals are required to prepare six courses - fish out of the local lake, pork steak, beef … [Read more...] about Grill skills: showdown to determine the greatest German grillmeister of them all

Wings prospect Kivenmaki makes up for size with ‘elite skill’
Ted Kulfan The Detroit News Published 6:56 p.m. UTC Jul 31, 2018 Detroit — The first impression of forward Otto Kivenmaki at last month’s development camp was one you’d expect to have, given the numbers. Yes, Kivenmaki really is that small. The Red Wings’ seventh-round choice in June’s NHL Entry Draft was listed at 5-foot-8, 137 pounds by central registry, which may have been some sort of record for smallest player ever drafted. Kivenmaki isn't going to enter any strongman competitions anytime soon, and that 5-8 mark is giving him a favorable benefit of the doubt in height. But watching Kivenmaki weave on the ice during the several days of drills, there was the sense this was a player to keep an eye on. Learn This: Practice Falling as a Skill
Get comfortable going airborne so you can let go and climb Author: Arno Ilgner Publish date: Jul 30, 2018 Falling is something we all tend to avoid. It’s scary and can potentially cause us injury. However, falling is also a very real part of climbing, so avoiding it doesn’t help. It’s also a skill. We can find responsible ways to integrate falling into our training so we can practice it well. To do this, we check our motivation. Instead of being motivated by practicing falling to “get it over with,” we’re motivated to be present as we practice. How do we do this? There are two important aspects: 1. We practice in small increments, which allows us to take on a little stress or fear and work through it gradually. Starting our practice on toprope or at the top-clipped lead bolt can help. Then we can increment to longer falls by taking one step up as we become comfortable, until eventually we’re taking honest body-length-plus … [Read more...] about Learn This: Practice Falling as a Skill
