1 Day in Watkins Glen NY Itinerary for Nature Lovers
Watkins Glen is the perfect place for hiking and outdoor adventures. I was about six or seven years old when I first visited Watkins Glen. I don’t have too many memories of this family vacation, except for the gorge. While I’m sure we did a little bit of hiking at Watkins Glen State Park, I only remember going there after dark. Back in the day, there was a laser lights show projected on the side of the canyon. As a kid, I was totally fascinated by it. When I got older, I returned to Watkins Glen and discovered that it’s a quaint town that will truly surprise you with its beautiful natural features and unique attractions. Even though it’s only a few hours from southern Ontario, many Canadians haven’t discovered the Finger Lakes region yet. I’m always excited to tell everyone about this magical place. Here is how to spend 1 day in Watkins Glen NY if you love hiking, the outdoors, animals, and eco-friendly experiences. Ranking every new 2018 Minnesota State Fair food from best to worst
Way to go, Minnesota State Fair. This was my 20th year of hitting the Great Minnesota Get-Together on the first day, draining my pocket of its Star Tribune-provided cash as I taste tested and rated the new-foods landscape from the midway to the former Machinery Hill. This year’s crop of 27 “official” new foods was among the best I’ve encountered during this two-decade slog. Sure, there were a few requisite flops, but their numbers were the smallest in memory, a highly promising trend. Even more encouraging, I encountered 15 off-the-books (meaning they didn’t receive the fair’s considerable public relations efforts) items, and this diverse group included some of the year’s top gotta-have delicacies, including the BLT to end all BLTs, glorious grilled peaches, a palate-cleansing apple developed by the University of Minnesota and a Thanksgiving-worthy cranberry-apple pie. Truly delicious food, a legacy that the fair should continue to foster. As … [Read more...] about Ranking every new 2018 Minnesota State Fair food from best to worst
New Fair foods reviewed: What you should wait in line for — and what you can skip
How do you try all the new foods at the Minnesota State Fair in one day? The answer is, walk fast and bring friends. This year, we decided to share the wealth (and calories) and bring one of you. We held a contest for someone to accompany us while we ate our way through the Minnesota State Fair official new foods list, and Aimee Olson of St. Paul was our lucky winner. But really, we were the lucky ones. Olson, a dedicated fairgoer, attends every day of the Fair’s 12-day run and knows the grounds like the back of her hand. When it was time to find a bathroom, she always knew which one was the closest and had a shortcut to get there. Her Instagram account, @memoriesonastick, is full of wistful and fun images of the Fair, and she shared all the new foods through her lens as well as adding her opinion to our story. This year’s new foods were heavy on seafood, some of it raw, which seemed risky to us. But we ate it anyway because we’re professionals. There were also lots … [Read more...] about New Fair foods reviewed: What you should wait in line for — and what you can skip
Spoiled by Beauty and Deals on the Irish Coast

ByLucas Peterson Aug. 21, 2018 There’s a lost city called Kilstiffen beneath the Cliffs of Moher — or so the story goes — which sprawl grandly over the Atlantic Ocean on the western coast of Ireland. The city was submerged and, according to legend, will remain so until the golden key to the gates are found. Or maybe you subscribe to a different theory: That an evil witch who lived there fell in love with Cu Chulainn, one of the great heroes of Irish mythology. Furious that he did not return her affection, she pummeled the shoreline, giving the cliffs their distinctive outline. All I knew, standing … [Read more...] about Spoiled by Beauty and Deals on the Irish Coast
