Nina A. Loasana (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM Jakarta ● Thu, May 19, 2022 Over the past few weeks, banners, posters and billboards of various sizes displaying the image of popular Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan have begun to pop up in numerous regions outside of the capital, as he inches closer to the end of his term in October. The roadside media seem to be trying to amplify his presence ahead of the presidential election in 2024. Some billboards openly endorse Anies for the 2024 presidential election, although others simply bear Idul Fitri wishes with his portrait. It remains unclear whether the outgoing governor, who does not have enough political support to make a run for the presidency, approved the erection of the roadside media as he has yet to make any statements about it. But many of the banners and billboards carry the name of groups claiming to be Anies supporters. to Read Full Story SUBSCRIBE NOW Starting from IDR 55,500/month Unlimited … [Read more...] about Support for Anies 2024 bid grows in last months as governor

This part of Northern California will be under a red flag warning starting tomorrow, signaling a critical wildfire threat
Large swaths of Northern California were bracing for “critical” weather conditions to develop beginning on Thursday that could make it easy for wildfires to spark, according to meteorologists. A combination of gusty winds, high temperatures and low humidity prompted the National Weather Service in Sacramento to upgrade a fire weather watch to a red flag warning Tuesday for the Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley and foothills below 2,000 feet. The warning will be in effect Thursday through Friday. Temperatures there were expected to reach the low 100s in the valleys, weather officials said. In the Bay Area, weather officials said the concern for potential fires this week will be “near-critical,” with the highest risk in the North and East Bay hills. “Even though we’re not under any ... red flag warning or fire-weather watch, we still need to be careful” this weekend, said National Weather Service meteorologist Brayden Murdock. There is a risk for fire starts … [Read more...] about This part of Northern California will be under a red flag warning starting tomorrow, signaling a critical wildfire threat
Live updates | US reopens embassy in Ukraine after 3 months
By The Associated Press WASHINGTON — The United States has re-opened its embassy in Ukraine three months after shuttering it and withdrawing American diplomats from Kyiv ahead of Russia’s invasion in February. The State Department said U.S. embassy operations in Kyiv resumed Wednesday, with diplomats returning on permanent basis to the capital from where they had been temporarily relocated to the western Ukrainian city of Lviv and neighboring Poland. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that “the Ukrainian people, with our security assistance, have defended their homeland in the face of Russia’s unconscionable invasion, and, as a result, the Stars and Stripes are flying over the Embassy once again.” Other Western countries have been re-opening their embassies. U.S. embassy staffers had begun returning to Kyiv on a limited basis on May 8 to mark the anniversary of WWII Victory in Europe day but the embassy itself remained closed. __ KEY DEVELOPMENTS IN THE … [Read more...] about Live updates | US reopens embassy in Ukraine after 3 months
I’m furious my benefits have been slashed by £80 a MONTH after a clerical error – but I’m the one being blamed
A FURIOUS mum has had her benefits slashed by £80 a month over what she describes as the government's own "clerical error". The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) claims Victoria Phillips failed to notify them of a change in her earnings - but the 35-year-old is adamant she did. The delay in 2017 resulted in her being overpaid and therefore owing £671.27 - but a chunk of the debt was later cleared. However, five years on and the mum-of-two thinks she's paying the price for the DWP's "mistake" again after being told she now owes a whopping £1,529.76. Since her daughter moved back in with her and she registered for Universal Credit , her monthly benefits have been cut by £80. And she reckons it’s because the UK's biggest public service department is trying to claw back what it thinks she owes - though it says she's in the wrong.
