Kim has raised eyebrows by using Daimler-branded stretch limousines at several very high-profile summits, including his meeting last week with Russian President Vladimir Putin and both of his earlier summits with President Donald Trump. The sale of luxury goods, including limousines, is banned under U.N. sanctions intended to put pressure on North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons. Kim nevertheless had two limos waiting for him at Vladivostok station — a Mercedes Maybach S600 Pullman Guard and a Mercedes Maybach S62. On Thursday night at Beacon Park in Detroit, "Detroit Tigers: The Roar of ’84,’" Lancaster’s documentary about the Detroit Tigers’ 1984 World Series championship team was screened for the first time. “It took a while before it became a reality,” Lancaster said. The showing, one of the opening acts of the festival, came with many of the key figures in attendance — including ’84 Tigers Kirk Gibson, Dan Petry and Dave Rozema — and shed an interesting look on the 35th anniversary of the Tigers’ last World Series championship. On April 1, 1926, the San Diego County Silk corporation celebrated planting the first of some 200,000 mulberry trees near what is now the intersection of Mission Road and Mulberry Drive in San Marcos. Efforts to develop a silk industry in the county date back to 1891 when, according to The Union, “a few philanthropic and energetic ladies” demonstrated that the climate of San Diego was well adapted to raising silkworms. However, the lack of mulberry leaves to feed the imported silkworms stunted early production. The 1920s attempted soon fell victim to the economic depression ushered in by the stock market collapse of 1929.
