HOUSTON (AP) — Tejano musician Fito Olivares, known for songs that were wedding and quinceanera mainstays including the hit “Juana La Cubana,” died Friday. He was 75. The noted saxophonist died in the morning at home in Houston, according to his wife, Griselda Olivares. She said he was diagnosed with cancer last year. Born Rodolfo Olivares in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas on April 19, 1947, Fito Olivares started playing professionally in his teens. In 1980, he and his brothers formed Olivares y su Grupo La Pura Sabrosura and moved to Houston. Other tunes he is known for include “Aguita de Melon,” “El Chicle" and “El Colesterol.” In addition to playing the saxophone, he also played accordion, wrote songs and occasionally sang, his wife said. 5 more arrested in deadly kidnapping of Americans in Mexico as questions continue to swirl around the case
(CNN) Mexican authorities arrested five more people Friday in connection to the kidnappings of four Americans in Matamoros, Mexico, as the bodies of the two Americans killed were returned to US diplomats and questions continued to swirl around last week's violent abduction. Six people have been arrested in total, including one on Tuesday, Tamaulipas Attorney General Irving Barrios Mojica said Friday. "The Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office (#FGJT) performed an arrest warrant against 5 people linked to the events of March 3 in Matamoros, for the crimes of aggravated kidnapping and intentional simple homicide. A 14-year old boy from Mexico City dubbed 'El Chapito' has been arrested over the drug-related killing of eight individuals in January. According to the country's federal Public Safety Department, the yet to be named youngster is alleged to have driven up on a motorbike before opening fire on a partying family in the deprived suburb of Chimalhuacan. The nickname 'El Chapito' - translated as 'Little Chapo' - is a reference to Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, an infamous drug lord who is behind bars himself. A grandma suffered a fatal heart attack at the funeral of her son and 11-year-old grandson who were shot dead in Mexico. Amelia Garcia Fernandez suffered a heart attack while receiving condolences from family and friends at the funeral home on March 6. The bereaved grandma was rushed from the wake to a hospital, but medics were unable to save her life. A reward of $50,000 (£41,700) has been announced by the FBI for help in saving four US citizens kidnapped in Mexico . According to the FBI , the four Americans were travelling in a white minivan with North Carolina licence plates when they crossed into Matamoros, Tamaulipas, on Friday. The unidentified gunmen fired upon the passengers in the vehicle shortly after they entered Mexico in in warring cartel territory. The armed men then kidnapped the US citizens, who have not yet been identified, and fled the scene, the FBI said. A release said: "All four Americans were placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men." TWO American siblings have reportedly gone missing in Mexico – just weeks after four US citizens were kidnapped. Hugo Yarset Monfort Luna, nine, and his sister Aranza Yosemiti Monfort Luna, 16, were last seen in the state of Nuevo León on Friday. Authorities have issued an amber alert and a search probe is underway as it’s feared that the children could be in “imminent danger.” It’s not yet known if the children were visiting Mexico or if they live in the country. Aranza was last seen wearing a pink shirt, black pants, a grey sweater, and blue sneakers. She had a black sweater wrapped around her waist and was carrying a brown handbag.
