South Dakota billionaire philanthropist T. Denny Sanford will have San Diego-based National University renamed in his honor.Sanford and the university announced Tuesday the school will be renamed Sanford National University. A formal launch is planned next July.Forbes reports Sanford has pledged $350 million to National University. The private, nonprofit school plans to dedicate the money to lowering the cost of college education for working adults, among other goals.Started in 1971, National University offers both online and campus-based programs for adult learners, and has about 28,000 students. CHERNIVTSI, Ukraine — Tucked in the southwest corner of Ukraine, Chernivtsi is a cheerful city that graciously marries the glories and sorrows of centuries past with vibrant Eastern European urban life today. It's at the heart of a geographical and historical region with a name that almost sounds whimsical: Bukovina. Fiercely proud Bukovina, whose name means beechwood in Romanian, spans Romania and Ukraine and straddles the Carpathian Mountains. Bukovina has witnessed a long succession of rulers and influences, including Huns, Ottomans sultans and Austro-Hungarian emperors. A flourishing Jewish population in Bukovina was uprooted and largely exterminated during World War II, but there are traces of it if you look. Afghan official: Bomb goes off inside classroom, wounds 19
An Afghan official says a bomb has gone off inside a classroom in eastern Ghazni province, wounding at least 19 university students.Arif Noori, spokesman for the provincial governor, says 12 of the wounded are female students of the Ghazni University, located on the outskirts of the provincial capital, the city of Ghazni. Noori added that two of the wounded are in critical condition.No one immediately claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack.Last month a magnetic explosive device attached to a mini bus belonging to the same university detonated, killing the driver. Noori says five students were also wounded in that blast.
