Salesforce, SF’s largest employer, drops more people as part of January layoffs

February 2, 2023 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Salesforce, San Francisco’s largest private employer, laid off thousands of employees early Thursday morning as the tech giant moves forward in its plan to cut its workforce by 10%. The corporate software company blamed the layoff rounds, originally announced on Jan. 4, on overhiring during the pandemic. In a two-hour meeting the following day, CEO Marc Benioff complained that just half of the company’s salespeople were responsible for 96% of sales, according to a CNBC report . In San Francisco, Thursday’s layoff round hit 258 workers, affecting “sales and customer service,” “technology and product” and “general administration,” according to a WARN notice obtained by SFGATE. WARN notices are mandated by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act to notify employees of mass layoffs. The 10% cut, which began a brutal January of tech layoff announcements, will eventually leave about 7,000 people out of work. Insider reported Thursday that 4,000 people vanished … [Read more...] about Salesforce, SF’s largest employer, drops more people as part of January layoffs

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 Entrepreneur Joe Gebbia donated $25 million to The Ocean Cleanup Thursday to support the nonprofit’s efforts to remove plastic from the world’s oceans and rivers. Experts in the field welcome both the donation and the attention to the issue of ocean sustainability, pointing out that it receives the least funding of all the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. According to the World Economic Forum, about $175 billion a year is needed to protect the oceans, but between 2015 and 2019 less than $10 billion total was invested in the cause. Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb and Samara and chairman of Airbnb.org, said he was proud to partner with the nonprofit, which declared his donation the largest in its history. “The Ocean Cleanup has created systems and technology that actually work at scale,” Gebbia said in a statement to The Associated Press. “In order for them … [Read more...] about Airbnb’s Joe Gebbia donates $25 million to The Ocean Cleanup

Investors have been dumping Adani shares for more than a week after U.S. short-selling firm Hindenburg Research put out a report alleging his businesses have engaged in fraud and stock price manipulation. The Adani group has denied this. Before the debacle, Adani, 60, was Asia's richest man and the third wealthiest in the world, according to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index. Not anymore. A MAN accused of the murder of mum-to-be Natalie McNally staged a fake live YouTube broadcast on the night she was killed, a court heard. Prosecutors claim Stephen McCullagh, from Woodland Gardens, Lisburn, Co Antrim, took a bus to Lurgan, Co Armagh . It is alleged that he murdered Ms McNally, 32, at her home before getting a taxi back. She was 15 weeks pregnant when she was stabbed to death at her Silverwood Green in Lurgan on December 18. McCullagh, who denies the allegation, later visited her family home to spend time with relatives. He allegedly left behind a phone in a bid to record conversations and work out if he was a suspect. Mr McCullagh, who did not speak at today's hearing, was first arrested on December 19 but released and ruled out as a suspect. The Dr Who fan, who has 37,000 YouTube subscribers, had appeared on a ‘live’ video stream around the time of her murder. He advised those watching that he was unable to interact with them for technical … [Read more...] about Man charged with murder of Natalie McNally ‘staged live broadcast’ on night she died, court told

PopCom executive director Lisa Grace Bersales urged the government to take action to reduce pregnancies in the younger age group. “Our concern now are births from [aged] 10 to 14 – the much younger teenage girls,” she said in a House committee on youth and sports development hearing. Citing data from the Civil Registry of Statistics system of the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA), Bersales said 2,113 births were recorded from the said age group in 2020. She then noted that according to the Field Health Service Information System of the Department of Health (DOH), there were 2,534 young Filipinas–10 to 14 years old–who gave birth in 2020, but this figure dipped to 2,299 in 2021. “The statistics vary depending … [Read more...] about PopCom alarmed over teen pregnancies as young as 10 to 14 years old
