More info The Klonoa series has stood the test of time, with the Bandai Namco platformer boasting an enviable reputation. Debuting back in 1997 on the PS1, the first game in the series - Door to Phantomile - is one of those rare PlayStation 1 games that will set you back a fair bit if you want to add an original physical copy to your retro gaming collection. Despite a positive critical reception at the time, this didn't translate into sales for the Klonoa series in general - with the last outing for the series coming in 2008 on the Wii. While it didn't set alight sales records, Klonoa games have built up a great … [Read more...] about Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series REVIEW: A lovingly crafted remaster of a true hidden gem

‘A Perfect Day for Caribou’ Review: Fathers and Sons Get Lost and Found in a Winning Monochrome Miniature
Click here to read the full article. A cemetery is not an auspicious choice of rendezvous point for an estranged father and son arranging what might be one last meeting in “ A Perfect Day for Caribou ,” but the dry joke of Jeff Rutherford ’s tender, affectingly reserved first feature is that things get more melancholic still when they leave its glum confines. Set over the course of a single day on the fringes of some dead American anytown, this at once quiet and talkative two-hander covers no especially new ground, but strides known territory with a keen eye for lonesome landscapes, and an ear for the eternal communicative impasse felt by men who know each other all too well and not at all. Sturdy, thoughtful performances from Jeb Berrier and, in particular, rising star Charlie Plummer should hook distributor interest in this low-key indie following its premiere in Locarno’s newcomer-oriented Cineasti de Presente strand. The gruffly dysfunctional father-son relationship at … [Read more...] about ‘A Perfect Day for Caribou’ Review: Fathers and Sons Get Lost and Found in a Winning Monochrome Miniature

‘Angry Annie’ Review: A Stirring French Abortion Drama Driven By a Spirit of Feminist Solidarity
Click here to read the full article. The fashions, fabrics and eye-crossingly patterned wallpapers of the 1970s abound in “ Angry Annie ,” a French period piece practically painted in avocado green and Le Creuset orange, with hand-crocheted accessories for good measure. Would that the rest of Blandine Lenoir ’s rousing abortion drama felt quite so dated. Instead, in a year where the overturning of Roe v. Wade signifies a major step back in the collective fight for women’s reproductive rights, this story of women banding together to assert their bodily autonomy in an age of sexual revolution feels all too timely: not merely a compelling reminder of how things were, but a warning of how they could yet be. Bright and predominantly hopeful in tone, and powered by a typically lovable performance from recent César winner Laure Calamy (“Call My Agent”) as a meek wife and mother emboldened by an underground women’s movement, this is a less visceral, more crowdpleasing account of … [Read more...] about ‘Angry Annie’ Review: A Stirring French Abortion Drama Driven By a Spirit of Feminist Solidarity
Review: TikTok star Bella Poarch seeks new musical fan base
Bella Poarch, “Dolls” (Warner Records) In theory this should work. With her massive TikTok following, Bella Poarch clearly needed to strike while the iron is hot and release a studio EP. “Dolls” is that album. Now comes the tricky part. Will enough of Poarch’s 91 million TikTok followers and pop music fans appreciate her six-track effort, or merely see it as a fame grab piggybacking on her curious ascent to the top of the social media heap? “Dolls” is heavy on production, with Poarch offering little more than breathy coos above a mundane pop backdrop. Songs like “Build A Bitch” and “Dolls” have a decent message about self-identity, but they are delivered in fleeting and furtive fashion, with Poarch rushing clutches of lyrics past us instead of, well, singing. The exception is “Living Hell,” a solid song about relationship power and control. Poarch excels on this track because she’s given room to push the boundaries of her voice. The strategical unveiling of Poarch as … [Read more...] about Review: TikTok star Bella Poarch seeks new musical fan base
Prince Andrew ‘to keep’ taxpayer-funded police bodyguards after security review
Prince Andrew will keep his state-funded police bodyguards following a review of his security arrangements, it is reported. The Duke of York's Metropolitan Police and Home Office security detail was assessed after the Queen stripped her second-eldest son of his military affiliations and royal patronages and removed his HRH (His Royal Highness) title. The decision was made after Virginia Giuffre claimed Jeffrey Epstein forced her to have sex with Andrew on three occasions when she was just 17 and brought a legal case against him in the US. Andrew later agreed to a financial settlement with Ms Giuffre. He has always vehemently denied the claims. The Duke of York pictured with two police protection officers in London ( Image: Tim Graham Photo Library via Getty Images) It was originally claimed that the settlement cost £12 million but it was reported last weekend that a reduced deal between £3 million and £5 million was negotiated by Andrew's lawyers. Beirut bank standoff exposes desperation of economic crisis
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 BEIRUT (AP) — A judge ordered a gunman who took up to 10 hostages at a Beirut bank to force the release of his trapped savings to stay behind bars Friday, apparently a bid to prevent copycats as desperation deepens over Lebanon's economic meltdown. A few dozen relatives of Bassam al-Sheikh Hussein briefly closed a major road in Beirut, saying that keeping him in jail breaches an agreement reached Thursday. The 42-year-old food-delivery driver surrendered after a seven-hour standoff in return for getting $35,000 of his money and promises that he would only be questioned then set free. No one was injured. It was the latest reminder of the pain created by Lebanon’s nearly three-year economic and financial crisis, described by the World Bank as one of the world's worst since the 1850s. Three-quarters of the population are in poverty, corruption is endemic and many are losing … [Read more...] about Beirut bank standoff exposes desperation of economic crisis
