Jeremy Hunt & Ben Wallace agree on eleventh hour deal to avoid £3billion of cuts to Armed Forces

November 15, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

JEREMY Hunt and Ben Wallace have agreed on an eleventh hour deal to avoid £3 billion of cuts to the Armed Forces, The Sun can reveal. The Chancellor will suspend Whitehall spending rules to allow the Ministry of Defence to borrow cash earmarked for future projects to meet inflation fuelled shortfalls in current spending. Mr Hunt is insisting all departments have to suck up the cost of inflation through their existing budgets ahead of Thursday's Autumn Statement . But the Defence Secretary warned there is a £3 billion shortfall in his vital spending plans due to soaring prices at a time of heightened national threat. The Defence budget was boosted by £24 billion at last year's spending review - set at £47.9 billion for 2022, growing to £48 billion in 2023 and £48.6 billion in 2024. But MoD sources say soaring prices have wiped £3 billion from those spending plans - meaning cuts were needed. BRITISH Airways yesterday told pilots to stop taking photos or posting them online while flying jets. Bosses insisted selfies at 30,000ft were a no-no in an update on social media use. But it sparked turbulence when Captain Dave Wallsworth went public over the ban on work cockpit picture. He said: “Unfortunately, due to new guidelines, I and colleagues will no longer be allowed to post when ‘professionally engaged in our job’. So that’s the end of my flying posts, photos and videos. “Thanks for all the lovely comments.” READ MORE ON BA MID-AIR DRAMA BA emergency as mobile phone bursts into flames sparking 'tornado' of smoke VIRUS HOL HELL Thousands of Brits' holidays threatened by coronavirus as BA cancel flights Kate Bevan said: “Oh no that’s ridiculous — your posts are fantastic engagement.” Samuel Carvalho added: “This is a big shame. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish review: The effects in this super-kitty movie are a spectacle

February 2, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH (PG) 102mins ★★★★☆ AS a self-confessed cat woman, I can think of no better hero to lead a film than fearless feline Puss. The delightfully daring kitty (Antonio Banderas), who first appeared in 2004’s outstanding Shrek 2 , had his own spin-off film over a decade ago. Now, the sequel sees the caped crusader living his best — and last — life. Having pushed the boundaries of adventure for years, Puss discovers he is on his ninth life, having died eight times already. His previous departures are explained in a hilarious montage that is a great reminder of the chaotic cat’s character. Dear Mr Barnier, thanks for inviting us back to the EU but here’s a word you usually choose to ignore: NO

February 3, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

DEAR Monsieur Barnier, Thank you very much for your invitation, of today, inviting Britain to rejoin the EU . I am keen to introduce you to a word that you may not have met for some time: NO. I know it is the way with the EU that even if an electorate says “No”, you take it to mean “Yes”. Or take it to mean “Try again”. After all, we all remember when the French and other electorates failed to vote your way. Back then the French were asked to approve the new EU constitution. They voted “No” and you ignored them. In fact, the EU managed to re-package the new constitution and got the French Parliament to push it past the pesky public. … [Read more...] about Dear Mr Barnier, thanks for inviting us back to the EU but here’s a word you usually choose to ignore: NO

In his most personal interview yet, the PM revealed how his other half Akshata Murthy gives him the "extra support" to do the gruelling job "when things are tough". He spilled all about his romantic proposal during a cliff-top walk in California , and how he was a huge fan of mushy rom com films like Love Actually . Rishi told Piers Morgan in an exclusive sit-down with TalkTV in Downing Street: "Yes I definitely am batting above my average. "I wouldn't have been able to do this job without her love and support." When grilled on what love means to him, the PM said: "There's lots of different aspects to it… Read More on Rishi Sunak PIERS MORGAN Has Rishi Sunak got what it takes to fix broken Britain? Nuclear security alert after botched attempt to fix Trident submarine with super glue

January 31, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

FURIOUS Navy chiefs last night ordered an investigation after workers on a Trident sub risked disaster — by gluing broken bolts in a nuclear reactor chamber. The bodged repairs to vital cooling pipes were only discovered when one bolt fell off during checks aboard the 16,000-ton HMS Vanguard. It has been sheared off through clumsy over-tightening but, instead of reporting the damage and taking the time to bore out the broken shafts, civilian staff at defence contractor Babcock glued the heads back on. They reported a procedural glitch — known as a process of work issue — but kept quiet on details including the bolts and glue. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace demanded a meeting and “assurances about future work” after The Sun raised the alarm. A Navy source said he was furious Babcock, one of the UK’s biggest defence contractors, failed to come clean with the Navy.
