MORE than half of people with cancer symptoms wait longer than six months to contact their GP, a survey reveals. The delay cuts survival chances as it is easier to treat the disease if it is detected early. Yet 48 per cent ignore “red flag” symptoms, such as coughing up blood, unexplained weight loss or a new lump for at least half a year, the Cancer Research UK poll shows. Poorer people are least likely to seek help quickly. TV star Martin Clunes is battling plans for a permanent traveller site next door to his farm. Neighbours Theo Langton and Ruth McGill have lived in a mobile home on their land for around 25 years. But Doc Martin and Men Behaving Badly star Clunes , 60, has objected to the new age hippies’ bid to expand the site. He has drafted in planning experts Terence O’Rourke to fight the proposals. In a letter to council chiefs, the firm states the plans are “wholly unsuitable” and “inappropriate”. The letter also points out the site has no “basic services, such as electricity , water or sewage”. Taiwan scrambles fighter jets as China deploys 36 warplanes to buzz island
TAIWAN has scrambled fighter jets to protect its territory after China deployed more than 30 warplanes to buzz the island. Dramatic video shared by Chinese state TV shows missiles being launched and jets mid-flight as part of joint military operations in the waters surrounding Taiwan . For its part, Taiwan's Ministry of Defence has shared its own footage of military exercises, including the second day of live-fire artillery drills in Pingtung, the southernmost province on the island. The defence ministry claimed that 10 Chinese warships and 36 military aircraft had been detected around Taiwan on Wednesday. In response, the ministry said it was monitoring the situation and deploying its own naval vessels, aircraft, and land-based missile systems. Earlier on Wednesday, sources claimed Chinese naval ships were active off both the east and west coasts of Taiwan, while fighter jets were also flying close to the halfway point of the Taiwanese straight.
