Mike Preston: At wide receiver, Ravens need the right player at the right price — with the right name | COMMENTARY
The Ravens should be looking for a wide receiver who has as much name recognition as production. One of the leading candidates appeared to be free-agent veteran Jarvis Landry, but he reportedly signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints on Friday. Landry’s skill set is comparable to second-year Ravens wideout Rashod Bateman, but the biggest difference is that Landry has been in the NFL since 2014 and has 688 career receptions for 7,598 yards. Bateman had 46 catches for 515 yards a year ago. Other than that, they are the same type of player. After the Ravens traded speedy wide receiver Marquise Brown to the Arizona Cardinals nearly two weeks ago on the first night of the NFL draft, they knew they had to find someone who could draw the attention of defensive coordinators when they focused on tight end Mark Andrews. Landry would have been the easiest fix. Now, the Ravens are forced to look elsewhere. There are other prominent free-agent receivers still available such … [Read more...] about Mike Preston: At wide receiver, Ravens need the right player at the right price — with the right name | COMMENTARY

Omar Kelly: Don’t overlook Dolphins’ undrafted rookies because history is on their side
When you’re 6-foot-7 as a child it’s fairly common to have folks mention, if not praise your size, especially in the sports world. But for offensive linemen, height isn’t everything. A player’s reach and arm length often determines their level of proficiency because of the job requirements. That’s why there are instances where a prospect’s arm length penalizes him in the draft process. That was likely the case for Kellen Diesch, who was projected by quite a few draft analysts as an early third-day pick in the draft, but ended up as one of the 14 undrafted rookies signed by the Miami Dolphins on Friday. “I kind of knew it in high school,” Diesch said when asked during this weekend’s rookie camp about his arm length, which measures 32 1/4 inches, which is in the eighth percentile for offensive tackles. “I’d have my mom measure my arms . . . I’m 6-foot-7 so it kind of makes up for it.” At least that’s what the Dolphins are hoping for after giving the former Arizona State … [Read more...] about Omar Kelly: Don’t overlook Dolphins’ undrafted rookies because history is on their side
Giants sign Kayvon Thibodeaux, Evan Neal; RB Jashaun Corbin stands out
Giants first-round picks Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal both signed their rookie contracts on Saturday after rookie minicamp practice. Their deals are determined by their draft slots. Thibodeaux gets four years and $31.3 million fully guaranteed as the No. 5 overall pick. Neal receives four years and $24.5 million fully guaranteed as the No. 7 overall pick. Both contracts come with a fifth-year team option for 2026. This is much earlier than the Giants typically sign their first-round picks. Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley and Andrew Thomas all signed in July of their respective draft years, and Kadarius Toney signed last June after a holdout. Thibodeaux and Neal are represented by the same agency, Klutch Sports Group. First-year GM Joe Schoen and the Giants front office, together with Klutch agents Kelton Crenshaw and Damarius Bilbo, made sure the Giants’ blue-chip draft picks were locked in early. This timeline may represent a new normal for the Giants under Schoen. “It … [Read more...] about Giants sign Kayvon Thibodeaux, Evan Neal; RB Jashaun Corbin stands out
Kiszla: Can coach Nathaniel Hackett give tough love Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy needs?
It will take more than a pep talk from a kindergarten cop to turn around the NFL career of Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Nathaniel Hackett, who brings a breathless energy to every coaching task, took big gulps of the thin Colorado air after running sprints with Broncos rookies at the conclusion of practice. “We’re all in this stuff together. So I want to let them know I’m right there with them, even though it might not be as pretty,” Hackett said Friday. His flush cheeks and heaving chest proved a rookie coach might run with first-year pros, but Hackett can’t hide the fact he’s 42 years old. In his first head coaching gig, Hackett is determined to paint a smiley face on football. He is the antithesis of grumpy old Uncle Vic Fangio, his predecessor. Trying to be one of the bruhs while bopping his head to the mixtape at practice, Hackett brings the youthful enthusiasm of a kindergarten cop to the playground. That’s cool. But when this team needs an adult in the room, … [Read more...] about Kiszla: Can coach Nathaniel Hackett give tough love Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy needs?

Dolphins signing former Pro Bowl pass rusher Melvin Ingram
The Miami Dolphins aren’t done adding talent to the roster this offseason, and they just landed a three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher. Melving Ingram is signing with the Dolphins, according to a league source on Sunday. Ingram, who can play both defensive end and outside linebacker and visited Miami in April, has made his mark in the NFL over nine seasons with the Chargers but found a resurgence late last season with the Chiefs. At 33 years old, Ingram has 55 career sacks between regular season and postseason play since entering the league as a first-round pick in the 2012 draft. After consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns from 2017 to 2019, Ingram suffered multiple knee injuries in 2020 that cut his final year with the Chargers short and caused him to miss more than half the season. He signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of training camp in 2021, and the Steelers then traded him at the deadline to the Chiefs. In the second half of the 2021 season in Kansas … [Read more...] about Dolphins signing former Pro Bowl pass rusher Melvin Ingram
