Treacherous waters online
The woman who died as a result of a crash on a remote rural road in Co Antrim was carer Jennifer Kane. She was based in Dervock, and her only child, Brent, posted a message online this evening lamenting her loss as the “worst news imaginable”. The accident happened on the Moycraig Road, to the north of Dervock, at around 8am.An ambulance crew, paramedic car, and air ambulance were all sent to the scene.The sole occupant, Jennifer, was taken to Causeway hospital by ambulance, but died.She had been driving a Black Vauxhall Corsa.It was the only vehicle involved in the accident.Rev John Anderson, a Church of Ireland minister who will be taking her funeral at a date yet to be arranged, possibly at St Colman’s church in Derrykeighan parish, said such accidents leave “a very deep grief” in their wake.“She’s very well-known and respected within the community,” he said.“She was one of the local carers who went round looking after the … [Read more...] about Fatal crash victim Jennifer Kane a ‘well loved and respected care worker’

Its exterior remains true to its past. Its rooms inside are lined with wooden walls and equipped with modern appliances. And it’s also as rare as the hulking landmark was critical when it kept vigilant watch off the shores of its namesake island decades ago. The vessel, once stationed to alert Atlantic sea farers of the sandbar-laden waters between Nantucket and New York City, is among only 12 lightships still floating and, of that dozen, one of only two in private hands, according to its owner, William Golden. “It creates perhaps the most comfortable and most authentic waterfront living experience in Boston or anywhere in the Northeast,” Golden, who has owned the ship at 55 Commercial Way with his wife, Kristen, for nearly 20 years, told Boston.com. Travel Photographer of the Year 2018 is a collection of glorious snaps that showcase the difference in lifestyles across the globe. The winner's photograph was of a group of men in a swimming pool staring intently at a game of chess, while other bathers splashed around them. The chaos and calm of the pool in Italy captured beautifully with the click of a button. As well as celebrating the wonder of the landscapes and portraits themselves, each photographer's story is revealed. Stefano Pensotti, who was the overall winner of Travel photographer of the year began taking pictures when he was around 14. He used to steal his other brother's camera and began to learn the methods and techniques used in dark room photography.
