NEIGHBOURS in one of Britain's snootiest towns say rich newcomers are 'rude' and turn their noses up at them. They added that overpriced coffee shops are pricing them out and that outsiders are made to feel small. Morpeth in Northumberland was recently voted one of the UK's snootiest towns according to review site ILiveHere. James Gregson is from Stock Hill, a few miles north of Morpeth, and claims outsiders are made to feel small by locals. The 18-year-old IT college student said: "People here expect you to move out of their way, as if their time is more important than yours. "It's definitely snooty. People look down on you. They expect everyone to cater to them. UK hospital declares critical incident as A&E department ‘full’ amid ‘immense pressure’
A major UK hospital has declared a critical incident as its A&E department is completely “full” while it battles “immense pressure”. The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan made the shocking announcement this evening as the hospital struggles amid current challenges to the NHS . The Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust warned that after “unprecedented attendances” the A&E department was “full”. On top of this, “growing pressures” on services further worsened the situation. A critical incident means the hospital can take additional action to ensure safe services are maintained as it deals with these increasing pressures. The trust added that it was facing “ongoing challenges” in discharging patients who are now well enough to leave hospital - a long standing problem facing the NHS. Abandoned ‘Chernobyl-on-Sea’ in UK that’s still a derelict eyesore after 12 years
Britain's "Chernobyl-on-Sea" is still abandoned after more than a decade, with skeleton buildings decaying at the old gasworks. Ugly hoardings surround the derelict building site which is just a stone's throw away from some of the best beaches in the UK. The area was once likened to the nuclear ghost city of Ukraine which was exposed to radiation after a reactor was destroyed in a devastating Soviet nuclear disaster in 1986. While the site at Hollicombe, Devon, has more simply been neglected over the past 12 years, reports Devon Live . It is now prime for a beachside development, after being cleared and cleaned of toxic chemicals such as arsenic and cyanide in 2015. Planning permission was granted for almost 200 much needed homes to be built on the site – 10 years ago. Graffiti lines the walls of the building site which has been left derelict for 12 years ( Image: Guy Henderson) But the area has not been touched, despite it being a valuable brownfield … [Read more...] about Abandoned ‘Chernobyl-on-Sea’ in UK that’s still a derelict eyesore after 12 years

A WEATHER map has revealed exactly when snow will hit the UK - as Brits face frost and fog. Graphs from WXCharts show parts of western Scotland and eastern Northern Ireland could be hit with the white stuff next week. The map's forecast shows snow moving across the north before it hits Scotland on February 7. Snow in Scotland has also been forecast by the Met Office in its long range forecast for February 6 to 15. In its predictions for next week, the Met Office says there will be "a small chance of very cold conditions and snow showers moving in from the east.” It added that beforehand: "For many, there should be plenty of mostly dry if rather cold weather, likely lasting a few days, with overnight frost and perhaps some fog patches in the south." Inside abandoned site known as UK’s ‘Chernobyl-on-Sea’ that lies close to some of Britain’s most famous beaches
EERIE photos capture the derelict site known as the UK’s “Chernobyl-on-Sea” which is close to some of Britain’s most well-known beaches. The site of the old gasworks at Hollicombe, Devon , has been abandoned for decades. Even though planning permission was granted for nearly 200 homes to be built there as long ago as 2012, it has not been touched. The area is one of a number of key “ brownfield ” sites marked for development in Torbay, where demand for land used for housing has reached critical levels. The three-acre site is now overgrown and strewn with battered fence panels and other debris. The wooden hoardings along the Paignton to Torquay road, opposite the entrance to Hollicombe Park and the path to the beach, are all cracked and peeling and covered in graffiti. Furious Evri drivers refuse to deliver parcels over new changes with stand-off at depot
Parcel delivery drivers have been involved in a stand-off with bosses at a depot with some refusing to pick up collections. A group of drivers with Evri said they were refusing to pick up their parcels for the day from one of the firm's delivery units in south Manchester. It is in response to changes to their routes, which they said would turn affect their earnings. They said they 'grafted hard' over the Christmas period to help clear a huge backlog , but claimed the 'tipping point' came when changes to their routes were implemented this week. Some alleged the number of parcels allocated to them had been 'slashed.' Some of the self-employed workers - who claimed they normally deliver on average over 150 parcels a day - said in the last few days they had arrived at the depot to find just a few dozen packages allocated to them, meaning, they claimed, they will earn less than £20 for their entire round. They claimed they won't be able to survive on that, and there were … [Read more...] about Furious Evri drivers refuse to deliver parcels over new changes with stand-off at depot
Devastated mum thought daughter, 21, had insect bite – year later she was dead
A mum who thought her daughter had an insect bite has been left devastated after she died from cancer just a month before graduation. Jenna Patel first visited a doctor when she noticed a lump on her shoulder she thought was an insect bite during work experience at a primary school but was told not to worry. When it continued to grow she returned and was eventually diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma - a rare cancer which can cause tumours in the bones or surrounding soft-tissues. Jenna, from Bolton, died in May 2022, the same month she turned 21 and was due to graduate as a teacher. The tragedy came at the same time her father, Manish, was undergoing cancer treatment. Mum Priti, 49, told Manchester Evening News : “Throughout absolutely everything Jenna never ever stopped smiling and that’s what people always think of, her beautiful smile. Warning as popular food and drink ‘increase your risk of dying from cancer by up to 30%’
Some popular food and drinks can increase your risk of dying from cancer significantly, according to a new study. Ultra-processed foods such as sliced bread, breakfast cereals, fizzy pop and ready meals have long been singled out for their high levels of salt, fat, sugar and artificial additives. These are known to cause obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease when consumed in high amounts. And now further evidence appears to support the idea that they can contribute to risks of deadly cancers too, following a massive study of the diets of 200,000 middle-aged adults in the UK. The team of scientists from Imperial College London monitored their health over 10 years, looking at the risk of developing cancer overall as well as specific risks of developing 34 different types of cancer. People who consume high amounts of ultra-processed food and drinks are more at risk of ovarian and brain cancers ( Image: Getty Images) Their study revealed that … [Read more...] about Warning as popular food and drink ‘increase your risk of dying from cancer by up to 30%’
