Rainy weather is headed to the Bay Area this week. Here’s a timeline of impacts
An arctic air mass is roaring out of the West Coast today, leaving room for a weak high-pressure system that will bring mostly quiet weather on Wednesday. But just over the western sky, a low-pressure system is spinning toward California. Clouds will roll into the Peninsula this afternoon and blanket most of the Bay Area by tonight. Northwest winds will then steadily pick up on Thursday as the system curls into the Golden State, hoisting chances for rain across the wider Bay Area as early as midnight on Friday. This will mark the start of two rounds of rain, snow and winds that will impact Northern California over the weekend. A timeline for this week’s rain chances The low-pressure system will slowly approach California on Wednesday afternoon and raise cloudy skies across the Bay Area. Depending on the timing of these clouds and how much sunlight manages to break through, daytime temperatures will largely be confined to the upper 50s to lower 60s across the Peninsula, North … [Read more...] about Rainy weather is headed to the Bay Area this week. Punxsutawney Phil comes out tomorrow for Groundhog Day – but these 7 other animals also have predictions ahead of spring
GROUNDHOG day is tomorrow as Americans wait to see if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow or not. While Phil remains the crown prince of the holiday that predicts whether or not millions of Americans have six more weeks of winter, other animals have given him competition. According to folklore, there will be six more weeks of winter if he sees his shadow. If he doesn’t, spring comes early. The tradition began among the German community in Pennsylvania in 1887 and has become a massive tourist event in the last few decades. Scramble the Duck, who wows Connecticut residents with his accurate predictions on Duck Day, and Bob the Armadillo, who gives hope to his fellow Texans for fewer harsh winter days, are giving Phil a run for his money. Scramble and Bob predict the weather like Phil does - if they see their shadow, then that means another six more weeks of winter. Bob is about seven years old and lives with his owners, Ralph and Sandra Fisher, on their ranch in … [Read more...] about Punxsutawney Phil comes out tomorrow for Groundhog Day – but these 7 other animals also have predictions ahead of spring

The boss of London's Sherlock Holmes Museum has won the right to kick his younger brother out of his £1m home amid a bitter 10-year feud which has torn their family apart. Businessman John Aidiniantz and his siblings have clocked up over 100 court appearances and racked up more than £2.5m in costs and court orders in an epic decade-long feud, sparked by a row over the spoils of the "goldmine" museum at 221B Baker Street. UK seal colony has 3,796 babies to look after as army of volunteers have work cut out
There’s a seal pup in the car park. He’s been hiding under cars and seems intent on belly-flopping his way through the gate and up on to the main road. Two wardens use plastic barriers to turn him around. Clearly put out that his adventuring is cut short, he hisses and snarls as he is herded back towards the beach. Meanwhile, on the coastal route popular with hikers, another pup has decided he prefers a muddy puddle in the middle of the path to the company of the other seals in the colony . A warden directs walkers around as the baby lies half submerged, flapping his flippers and blowing bubbles through his nose. Welcome to Horsey beach in north Norfolk, where this year has been a record one for grey seal pups , whose big eyes and fluffy fur are enough to melt the hardest heart. Since the start of this season 3,796 babies have been born along the five-mile stretch of sand, getting on for double the previous count in 2019-20 when the total pup population was 2,069. … [Read more...] about UK seal colony has 3,796 babies to look after as army of volunteers have work cut out
