We live in ‘UK’s snootiest town’ where rich newcomers are rude & turn their noses up at locals – we’re being pushed out

February 2, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

NEIGHBOURS in one of Britain's snootiest towns say rich newcomers are 'rude' and turn their noses up at them. They added that overpriced coffee shops are pricing them out and that outsiders are made to feel small. Morpeth in Northumberland was recently voted one of the UK's snootiest towns according to review site ILiveHere. James Gregson is from Stock Hill, a few miles north of Morpeth, and claims outsiders are made to feel small by locals. The 18-year-old IT college student said: "People here expect you to move out of their way, as if their time is more important than yours. "It's definitely snooty. People look down on you. They expect everyone to cater to them. UK hospital declares critical incident as A&E department ‘full’ amid ‘immense pressure’

February 1, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

A major UK hospital has declared a critical incident as its A&E department is completely “full” while it battles “immense pressure”. The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan made the shocking announcement this evening as the hospital struggles amid current challenges to the NHS . The Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust warned that after “unprecedented attendances” the A&E department was “full”. On top of this, “growing pressures” on services further worsened the situation. A critical incident means the hospital can take additional action to ensure safe services are maintained as it deals with these increasing pressures. The trust added that it was facing “ongoing challenges” in discharging patients who are now well enough to leave hospital - a long standing problem facing the NHS. Inside abandoned site known as UK’s ‘Chernobyl-on-Sea’ that lies close to some of Britain’s most famous beaches

February 2, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

EERIE photos capture the derelict site known as the UK’s “Chernobyl-on-Sea” which is close to some of Britain’s most well-known beaches. The site of the old gasworks at Hollicombe, Devon , has been abandoned for decades. Even though planning permission was granted for nearly 200 homes to be built there as long ago as 2012, it has not been touched. The area is one of a number of key “ brownfield ” sites marked for development in Torbay, where demand for land used for housing has reached critical levels. The three-acre site is now overgrown and strewn with battered fence panels and other debris. The wooden hoardings along the Paignton to Torquay road, opposite the entrance to Hollicombe Park and the path to the beach, are all cracked and peeling and covered in graffiti. Britain's "Chernobyl-on-Sea" is still abandoned after more than a decade, with skeleton buildings decaying at the old gasworks. Ugly hoardings surround the derelict building site which is just a stone's throw away from some of the best beaches in the UK. The area was once likened to the nuclear ghost city of Ukraine which was exposed to radiation after a reactor was destroyed in a devastating Soviet nuclear disaster in 1986. While the site at Hollicombe, Devon, has more simply been neglected over the past 12 years, reports Devon Live . It is now prime for a beachside development, after being cleared and cleaned of toxic chemicals such as arsenic and cyanide in 2015. Planning permission was granted for almost 200 much needed homes to be built on the site – 10 years ago.
