In the last few weeks, Ukrainian forces have struggled to hold the line, with Russia taking over the last pocket of Ukrainian resistance in the Luhansk region. The city of Lysychansk has fallen under Russian occupation on Saturday, according to Russian-backed local officials. However, Russia’s loss of the Snake Island could herald a change in war dynamics. Two more Brits could face the death penalty after being captured by Russian-backed separatists in Ukraine - including one who was helping a woman and two children flee shelling. Dylan Healy, 22, and Andrew Hill, 35, face trial in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), a pro- Putin rogue state in eastern Ukraine recognised only by Russia and Syria. It comes as two other Brits - Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48 - were sentenced to death by firing squad at a show trial last month. READ MORE: New image shows massive Soviet-era missile that destroyed Ukrainian shopping centre Mr Healy, from Huntingdon, Cambridge, was detained in late April at a Russian military checkpoint in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region while helping with the evacuation of a Ukrainian woman and two children. Ukraine begs UK to put warships in Black Sea to help get grain out of country

Royal Navy warships should police a deal allowing grain exports from Black Sea ports, a Ukrainian MP said today. Odessa MP Alex Goncharenko - described as a key ally of President Volodymyr Zelensky - wanted British frigates and destroyers to help provide safe passage for vessels bringing crops out of the war-torn nation. Speaking to reporters on the margins of the NATO Summit in Madrid, he called for “some kind of political deal” between the West, Turkey and Russia to allow freight ships to access Black Sea ports and release crops. “For example, today Russia is exporting millions of barrels of oil everyday through the Bosphorus - it can be said to them for humanitarian reasons, ‘Either your oil and Ukrainian grain is coming or nothing is coming,” he said. “That would be absolutely just and clear and it can be done without any military operations, no risk of military attacks.” He believed oil should be used as “leverage” to force the Kremlin to “open the Black Sea”. Ukraine ‘could develop own nuclear weapons’ to stop Vladimir Putin’s war

July 2, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Ukraine could soon start to develop their own nuclear weapons to end the Russian invasion, a war expert has suggested. Dr Paul Maddrell, an international history and international relations lecturer at Loughborough University, has advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to either build an arsenal or buy weapons in from other nations. It comes as the war in Ukraine rages on, with four months of fighting leading to the deaths of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and soldiers during the relentless bombardment of the country's cities. Dr Maddrell believes Vladimir Putin's actions are designed to dismember Ukraine, weaken its military and reverse the expansion of NATO. And he believes the establishment of a Ukrainian nuclear arsenal could be the best method of preventing Putin from continuing to pursue those goals, the Daily Star reports. Dr Paul Maddrell believes Ukraine may look at the possibility of developing their own nuclear weapons ( Image: Russian Defence … [Read more...] about Ukraine ‘could develop own nuclear weapons’ to stop Vladimir Putin’s war

A top Russian ice hockey star has been forcibly enlisted in the Russian army and dragged off to fight in Ukraine . Ivan Fedotov was poised to play in the US and will be ‘forced instead into Vladimir Putin ’s army’ which is at war with country. The 25-year-old was rushed to an army enlistment office after being dramatically held by a squad of uniformed and plain-clothed police officers in St Petersburg. He was accused of seeking to dodge the military draft and the move to enlist him has been seen as revenge for signing to play in the US for the Philadelphia Flyers. Downing Street doesn’t rule out cutting off gas pipelines to Europe if supplies run low

June 29, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Downing Street today failed to rule out cutting off gas pipelines between the UK and European continent if supplies run low due to the Ukraine war. A No10 spokesman insisted there were “no plans” to cut off supplies through ‘interconnectors’ between Britain and Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium. But he accepted the National Grid has “emergency procedures that are decades old”. The Financial Times reported shutting off interconnectors is one option in a four-stage emergency gas plan, triggered if supplies run severely short causing a loss of pressure in the gas system. Others are said to include shutting off supplies to large industrial users and asking families to cut their energy use. Asked if cutting off interconnectors was one option, a No10 spokesman said: “I’ve seen those reports and there are no plans to do that. Vladimir Putin’s evil plan exposed as Russia loses ‘floating missile base’ Snake Island

July 1, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk Leave a Comment

Ukraine's recapture of Snake Island is a major blow to Vladimir Putin who was using the strategic outpost as part of his evil plan to spark global hunger and destabilise the EU, an expert has said. Yesterday Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed its troops have abandoned the Black Sea island, claiming they left as a gesture of goodwill. But Ukrainian officials say Putin's troops were driven off in five boats after a trouncing defeat at the hand of Kyiv's forces. The island - which was captured on the first day of Russia's invasion - achieved worldwide fame when a Russian warship's demand for inhabitants to surrender was met with a resounding "go f**k yourself" from 13 valiant border guards who were then slaughtered in an aerial bombardment. The tiny outpost lies close to the coasts of Ukraine and Romania and is strategically important because it sits beside key shipping lanes which would in peacetime carry grain to feed the world. The Russian navy has been left humiliated after an embarrassing military failure saw Putin’s forces accidentally blow up their own ship. A landing craft from Black Sea Fleet D-106 reportedly exploded near Mariupol after it hit one of its own sea mines. Although none of the crew are said to have died during the latest calamity, it still marks yet another blow to the invading forces in their invasion of Ukraine . READ MORE: 'Severely genetically compromised' incest baby dies hours after birth by sibling parents A Telegram channel related to the Russian navy confirmed: “Near Mariupol, a landing craft of the Black Sea Fleet D-106 blew up on a mine.” It comes just days after the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence taunted Russian troops over their withdrawal from Snake Island , after the land had previously been captured by two Russian warships in February.
