New York (CNN) There appears to be no end of trouble in sight for flyers this week -- a chaotic July Fourth weekend has spawned more than 1,100 cancellations since Friday as airlines grapple with staffing shortages and poor weather amid an abundance of passengers. More than 7,800 US flights were delayed Friday -- including 45% of JetBlue's operations and almost a third of United, American Airlines and Southwest's operations. Delta also saw a quarter of its operations delayed. Air travelers face 'operational challenges' this weekend Thunderstorms in the Northeast Friday afternoon were to blame for causing delays of an hour or more at some of the region's major airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's flight delay map . Ukraine's recapture of Snake Island is a major blow to Vladimir Putin who was using the strategic outpost as part of his evil plan to spark global hunger and destabilise the EU, an expert has said. Yesterday Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed its troops have abandoned the Black Sea island, claiming they left as a gesture of goodwill. But Ukrainian officials say Putin's troops were driven off in five boats after a trouncing defeat at the hand of Kyiv's forces. The island - which was captured on the first day of Russia's invasion - achieved worldwide fame when a Russian warship's demand for inhabitants to surrender was met with a resounding "go f**k yourself" from 13 valiant border guards who were then slaughtered in an aerial bombardment.
