THE United Arab Emirates has the most powerful passport in the world - granting access to 167 countries. While the UK offers entry to just 119, according to Passport Index. The oil rich UAE jumped from third place to top after four countries were added in December. It allows holders to enter 113 countries without visa. The PR boost comes just weeks after it released Brit student Matthew Hedges, who had been sentenced to life in a Dubai prison for "being a spy." The UK allows visa free entry to 164 locations, with 119 being visa free. Singapore and Germany hold the second most powerful passports, allowing residents to enter 164 countries unchallenged. Quite a few European nations, the US and South Korea come next with access to 165. Afghanistan finished bottom, with access to just 29 countries without the need of visa approval. Bloomberg is reporting that Emirates is in early talks to take over Etihad‘s airline assets, which would create the world’s largest airline by passenger traffic. Half the world is obsessed with Dubai and I must be part of the other half who really really is not obsessed at all. I am not going to dwell on why this isn’t the destination for me – because those who want to go to, and those who don’t… have other options. The UAE (United Arab Emirates) are made up of seven different Emirates – of which the capital is Abu Dhabi. The others (just for reference) are Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain. I am no expert, but I have grown incredibly fond of Abu Dhabi (I first visited in 2013) and we have been back 4 times since. This year alone, we have been to the UAE 3 times and only set foot in Dubai for dinner before the airport. Why? We have found some truly incredible hotels and the destinations I am showcasing in this article offer something I love: peace and quiet, no high rise buildings, interesting food, no crowds and truly outstanding hotels.
