U.S.-China business ties have become strained amid growing tensions between the two countries over security and trade issues, which often overlap. China on Monday criticized U.S. controls on technology exports as a trade violation. Fears over … [Read more...] about Air Force opposes Chinese-owned corn plant for North Dakota

We need to ditch European Court of Human Rights to tackle Channel migrants crisis, Brexit-backing MPs say

February 2, 2023 by www.dailymail.co.uk Leave a Comment

The UK must pull out of the European Court of Human Rights to end the Channel small boats crisis, say Brexiteer MPs. Rishi Sunak has made tackling the issue of thousands of migrants arriving from France one of his top priorities. He has vowed to pass laws to ‘make sure that if you come to this country illegally, you are detained and swiftly removed’. But moves to discourage such arrivals by deporting them to Rwanda have been held up by court challenges. Now an MP has told an audience of senior Brexiteers that the PM’s law must include a clause to ignore the European Court in Strasbourg if it tries to shut down the Government’s plans. Jonathan Gullis, Conservative MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, has said the UK 'must have control of its borders' Speaking at the Eurosceptic think-tank European Foundation, Jonathan Gullis said decisions made by British courts must not be overruled by foreign ones. He said: ‘Taking back control was also about taking back our … [Read more...] about We need to ditch European Court of Human Rights to tackle Channel migrants crisis, Brexit-backing MPs say

The Defence Ministry/Handout via REUTERS SEOUL — North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that joint drills by the United States and its allies have pushed the situation to an “extreme red-line” and threaten to turn the peninsula into a “huge war arsenal and a more critical war zone.” The statement, carried by state news agency KCNA, said Pyongyang was not interested in dialogue as long as Washington pursues hostile policies. “The military and political situation on the Korean peninsula and in the region has reached an extreme red-line due to the reckless military confrontational maneuvers and hostile acts of the US and its vassal forces,” an unnamed ministry spokesperson said in the statement. The statement cited a visit to Seoul this week by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Moscow accused NATO of being "involved in a hybrid war against Russia" on Tuesday, as Western countries pledged to provide more military aid to Kyiv. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the "hybrid war" involving NATO has lasted for a long time, and "the war is being refracted in its hot displays, in actions of the Kyiv regime". Moscow is taking necessary measures to prevent Ukraine from turning into an even sharper threat to Russia's security, he said. During a news conference after talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, he said Russia will prevent the Ukrainian authorities "from prevailing in its policy of discrimination and destruction of rights of all those Ukrainian citizens and former Ukrainian citizens who felt involved in Russian history, Russian culture and Russian traditions". Russia is watching this process, and the armed forces will take all necessary measures to prevent Western plans from coming to fruition, he said.
