Thanh Thanh Cong Investment acquires 35 million SBT shares, lifting ownership to 32 per cent Thanh Thanh Cong Investment JSC has purchased 35 million shares in Thanh Thanh Cong - Bien Hoa JSC (SBT), lifting its ownership in the sugar manufacturer to 158.5 million shares, an equivalent of 32 per cent of SBT’s capital. The number fell short of its total registered purchase of 45 million shares. Shares in SBT were trading at around VND20,000-22,000 (US$0.90) on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange during the purchasing time from November 16 to December 14, putting the deal value at more than VND750 billion ($32 million). Earlier in November, chairwoman of Thanh Thanh Cong Investment JSC Dang Huynh Uc My completed the purchase of 20 million shares of SBT, raising her stake to 10.6 per cent. Hai Phong has 89 new-style rural communes An additional 15 communes in the northern port city of Hai Phong have been recognised as completing all criteria of the new-style rural area building programme so far this year, raising the total number to 89. Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Pham Van Lap attributed the results to the city’s investment of 860 billion VND (36.98 million USD) to build rural infrastructure at communal level. As of November this year, localities received 21,450 tonnes of cement to build more than 101km of roads. As a result, 107 out of total 156 communes, wards and towns of Hai Phong have completed the criteria in village transport, and 95 others have finished the concretising of main interior roads. Notably, Hai Phong has drawn eight businesses, including VinEco, Ky Duyen Ltd. and Chau Giang JSC, to invest more than 1.17 trillion VND (50.31 million USD) in 284.81 hectares of high-tech agricultural farms. Police revoke 9,800 driving licences in two months Traffic policemen check a car driver’s documents Traffic police across the country revoked some 9,800 driving licences from September 21 to November 20, 2018. Recent reports from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security revealed that after two months implementing the Prime Minister’s command to ensure road safety, nearly 142,000 traffic violation cases were handled with 9,800 driving licences withdrawn and 4,500 cars seized. Among vehicles violating traffic rules, trucks accounted for 55 percent, while coaches and cars took 17 percent and 28 percent, respectively. The police found 53 fake licences, four fake vehicle registrations and withdrew the number plates of 110 expired cars. Mexico to face fierce competition from Vietnam: Mexican economists Mexican economists have shared the view that once the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) takes effect, Mexico will have to face fierce competition from Vietnam in many sectors, such as garments and textiles, leather and footwear, and electronic equipment. Arnulfo Gomez, a foreign trade expert, said Vietnam has successfully implemented a commercial strategy that helps improve the quality and competitiveness of its products on the international market by reducing spending on materials and applying technology in production. With such advantages, Vietnam has more capacity than Mexico to utilise opportunities generated by the CPTPP, he said.
