What do we celebrate in Vietnamese National Day? This 2nd of September marks Vietnamese National day. Vietnam celebrates its 72nd Independence Day and the Vietnamese declaration of Independence from France. At the end of the World War II, and following the ‘August Revolution’ (August 14th Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh moved to take control of Vietnam, declaring independence and forming a national government), Ho Chi Minh proclaimed this day the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (in North Vietnam). Thousands of people gathered at Ba Dinh Square, in Hanoi, and listened to the Declaration of Independence read by him. Since this 2nd of September, people have always been celebrating Vietnamese National Day as a meaningful occasion. If the holiday falls on a weekend day, the following Monday can be observed as a public holiday as well. There is a wide range of activities that can be found during the Vietnamese National Day: fireworks are shot in … [Read more...] about What to do if you are in Vietnam for Vietnamese National Day?
Ho Chi Min City or also called Saigon was the starting point and end point of a two-week Vietnam summer holiday with my wife and kids. On the return we had a two night stay at the Hotel Des Arts Saigon. This hotel is member of Accor Hotels and the M Gallery by Sofitel brand. These hotels are all different and have a distinct atmosphere. It has the highest rooftop bar and pool in Saigon so I simply had to try it. It was a pleasant stay and I’ll show you around but first let’s start with a video impression. The hotel The Hotel des Arts Saigon is located in central Ho Chi Min City just two blocks from the reunification palace. A 30-minute taxi ride brings you to the airport. This central location makes it the perfect spot from where to explore Saigon on foot. The building is a slim but tall tower and opened its doors just a year ago. Large wooden doors lead to the lobby where the friendly staff welcomed me. The lobby is spacious and full of light with on the right the … [Read more...] about VIETNAM – Art and an awesome rooftop bar & pool at Hotel Des Arts Saigon

by John O'Ceallaigh and Luxury Travel Editor, The Telegraph, March 28, 2018 Make your way to the poolside restaurant at Vietnam’s Six Senses Ninh Van Bay resort at noon and you’ll pass a member of staff busily updating figures on an eye-level wooden board. One of the most visible components of the Six Senses Earth Lab initiative, which launched here in November and is now featured in one incarnation or another across every property in the Six Senses portfolio, the board details the resort’s daily energy and water consumption, alongside the number of glass bottles of filtered water consumed over the last 24 hours. That the guests of this resort of just 59 villas had in the last day collectively emptied 720 bottles of water is a statistic that in itself is perhaps of little interest, until you consider the many thousands of single-use plastic bottles a similar resort might send to landfill or towards the ocean in any … [Read more...] about Organic Dining and an Earth Lab: Holidaying With a Clear Conscience at Vietnam’s Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
