Buffalo shooter let some people see plans just before attack
Shortly before he opened fire, the white gunman accused of killing 10 Black people at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket allowed a small group of people to see his detailed plans for the attack, which he had been chronicling for months in a private, online diary. Discord, the chat platform where 18-year-old Payton Gendron kept the diary, confirmed Wednesday that an invitation to access his private writings was sent to the group about a half-hour before Saturday’s attack at Tops Friendly Market, which he live-streamed on another online service. Some of them accepted. Gendron’s diary and its racist, anti-Semitic entries dated to last November included step-by-step descriptions of his assault plans, a detailed account of a reconnaissance trip he made to Buffalo in March, and maps of the store that he drew by hand. "What we know at this time is that a private, invite-only server was created by the suspect to serve as a personal diary chat log," a Discord spokesperson said in a written … [Read more...] about Buffalo shooter let some people see plans just before attack

How the pandemic positioned S.F. to become ‘the Napa Valley of cannabis’
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 2 As many San Francisco businesses struggled — or shuttered — under the harsh economic effects of the pandemic, one sector in particular saw its fortunes bloom. San Francisco’s cannabis industry saw an enormous boom during, and perhaps in part because of, the pandemic. The city’s Office of Cannabis approved more permits for cannabis-related businesses in 2020 than in any previous year. And as other businesses were forced to close, at least 10 cannabis retail shops opened in the city last year. The businesses have opened through the cannabis equity program, which prioritizes permits for people who have been harmed by the war on drugs. In the summer of 2018, the office began accepting applications and by the end of 2019, it had issued their first two permits. The office expects to issue a handful of additional permits in the coming weeks. “The pandemic revealed what San Francisco has … [Read more...] about How the pandemic positioned S.F. to become ‘the Napa Valley of cannabis’

Rep. Liz Cheney blasts fellow GOPers after racist mass shooting
U.S. Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) testifies before the House Rules Committee in Washington, U.S., December 14, 2021. REUTERS/Elizabeth Frantz WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Liz Cheney called on fellow Republicans to reject white supremacism, days after a teenage gunman motivated by the right-wing “great replacement” theory allegedly killed 10 people in a racist shooting in western New York state. “The House GOP leadership has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism,” Cheney, an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump and his allies in the House of Representatives, wrote on Twitter. “History has taught us that what begins with words ends in far worse. @GOP leaders must renounce and reject these views and those who hold them,” she tweeted. Political fallout from the weekend shooting could become a new hurdle for Republicans, as they try to minimize infighting over party fealty to Trump in the run-up to the Nov. 8 midterm elections that will … [Read more...] about Rep. Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian are the names on everybody's lips at the moment as fans and followers speculate when the loved-up comedian will propose. But he may have to postpone his plans for a short while to avoid any embarrassment after an old social media post involving Ariana Grande resurfaced.
