Washington’s Newseum to close by year’s end

· October 3, 2019 ·

WASHINGTON — A museum dedicated to journalism and the First Amendment is set to close its doors near the National Mall by the end of the year. WTOP-FM reports the Newseum announced its impending closure Tuesday, citing yearslong financial issues. A company statement says that despite more than 11 years of service and nearly 10 million visitors, continued operations have proved to be unsustainable. The statement says the museum's founder and primary funder, the Freedom Forum, remains committed to its mission to champion the five freedoms guaranteed under the First Amendment. It says efforts to increase public awareness about the importance of a free press are needed now more than ever. Visitors are welcome through Dec. 31, 2019. 5 takeaways from the Patriots’ 33-7 win over Washington

· October 6, 2019 ·

COMMENTARY Five takeaways from the Patriots’ 33-7 rout of the Redskins, as Bill Belichick’s team moves to 5-0 … BRADY AND MICHEL BOTH RESPOND Through two quarters on Sunday, Tom Brady had attempted 31 passes, and the offense had executed 41 plays — yet all that opportunity had yielded just 12 points, and three of those came after a Jason McCourty interception set up the Patriots offense with the ball at the Redskins’ 11. Collectively the attack was averaging fewer than five yards per play, and efficiency appeared to be an issue, but after intermission the Pats came out and turned to their running game in an effort to reap the benefits of playing the first half at such a break-neck pace. New England opened up after halftime with five rushing attempts on the first six plays, and added a couple of well-executed passes to running backs to put together a crisp 75-yard drive. On the next possession, Sony Michel broke off a 25-yard run over left tackle, then … [Read more...] about 5 takeaways from the Patriots’ 33-7 win over Washington

Washington looks like old self in ending rushing scoring drought

· October 12, 2019 ·

The little hop-step as he crossed the goal line for a touchdown said it all on Saturday night.Senior running back Juwan Washington looked very much like the exciting, formidable back he can be in a 26-22 victory over Wyoming at SDCCU Stadium.Starting for the first time in five games since suffering an ankle injury in the season opener, Washington kept the Cowboys defenders’ heads on a swivel — a number of times nimbly reversing field. And he delivered one of the game’s biggest blows with an impressive scoring run in the fourth quarter. On first-and-goal at the Wyoming 10-yard line and the Aztecs trailing 14-13 midway through the third quarter, Washington faced a wall up the middle and busted out to left to outrun everyone to just inside the corner’s orange pylon. That’s where he all but did a school-yard skip across the line.In what would have been considered an improbable drought before Washington’s injury, it was his first rushing touchdown since … [Read more...] about Washington looks like old self in ending rushing scoring drought
