Most people don’t know about China’s Hawaii nor did I for a long time. When I learned about Hainan and its white sandy beaches I thought this was a perfect spot for a two-week vacation during Christmas time. Away from the cold weather in the Netherlands. I found a great deal for a low priced airline ticket to China in business class departing from Madrid (read my tips on booking cheap business class tickets). I did not hesitate to book. I went together with my kids and spouse to Hainan during Christmas 2015. One of the days we visited West Island and the Sanya No. 1 Agricultural Products Market. Join me to West Island! West Island West Island (in Chinese: Ximao Zhou) is not cheap. The activities are expensive, for sure for Chinese standards. The island can be reached by a 10 minute boat ride from Xiaoqi Port located about 30 minutes from downtown Sanya. If you go 30 minutes to the other side of Sanya you can reach also Wuzhizhou or Wuzhi Island. Both islands offer similar … [Read more...] about CHINA – A day on West Island & dinner at the local Sanya fish market
Tokyo is a huge city which cannot be explored in a day but it will also not take a week. One day should be spend in the Western part. I will take you to temples and skyscrapers in West Tokyo. This trip to Tokyo was for business but my son (9 years) joined me there and also to Macau and Hong Kong. We explored the city together which was due time as during my earlier trip to Tokyo I did not have much time. Join me on a journey through West Tokyo! Meiji Shrine in Tokyo As we arrived late afternoon and went to bed early we were fresh and without jetlag in the morning. My son had never been overseas before and the first day started with a small culture shock when we took the metro to Omotesando Station where the luxury shopping street starts. When we came out of the metro the whole crossing was just full of people walking (see photo above). My son was a bit overwhelmed but soon he blended in with his blonde hair. We walked down Omotesando Street towards Takeshita Dori Street which is a nice … [Read more...] about JAPAN – A day in West Tokyo: Skyscrapers & temples
March 12, 2018 By Kirsty-Sian McShane Leave a Comment At the Southernmost point of Florida you’ll find Key West, a laidback tropical island that will have you feeling as if you’ve stepped straight into the Caribbean. Throughout its rich history Key West has served as a refuge to pirates, ship wreckers, smugglers, writers, artists, fishermen and musicians. With an eclectic atmosphere where life moves at its own pace, every hour is happy hour in this little slice of paradise. That’s right, Key West has recovered from the hurricane, and it is truly paradise again. Furthermore, the businesses need you guys (the travellers and tourists to return!) If there’s one thing we love doing on the blog, it’s promoting worthy destinations and that’s why we were excited when Expedia.com wanted to collaborate on a story for Key West. So get your butts back to Florida, your time and money means so much more than just an amazing holiday for yourselves, it also means … [Read more...] about Why you need to visit Key West, Florida AND why they need you!
Recently I was lucky enough to visit Key West on a trip to Florida. Key West is an island at the southern most point of the United States. To get there is it is a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive from Miami along one scenic road called the Overseas Highway and it is approximately 8 hours from Orlando. We saw this lobster on our journey It is part of the Florida Keys, a collection of little islands known for their laid back charm, beautiful beaches, fishing, snorkelling and amazing seafood. The Southernmost House However I wasn't quite sure what to expect about Key West before we went. It is the largest island in the area, and I heard it is known as a partying town. Would it be suitable for families I wondered? Well all my worries were laid to rest when we arrived. We all totally loved it there! Sunset in Key West The main street is Duval Street which has many restaurants, shops and bars and leads down to the beach. There is also Mallory … [Read more...] about Our Visit To Key West
On a recent family holiday we decided to stay in a little village called Beckermet, West Cumbria. We stayed in a converted forge which was beautiful and compact, comfortable, but a little bit creaky! We love the Lake District and usually stay in Hawkshead as it is more central to all the popular attractions i.e. Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston. However, we decided to venture further West this time to stay in this quaint little village. Beckermet is situated near the coast between Egremont and Seascale. It is only 3 kms from Sellafield but this is only visible from higher parts of the village. The name Beckermet seems to have derived from the names of 2 streams meeting (Kirk Beck and Black Beck) and there have been many mispronunciations over the years, the earliest from 1130 being Bechemet translated as “hermit’s stream”. Until fairly recently Beckermet had 2 parishes, Beckermet St. Bridget and Beckermet St. John. St Bridget included the small village of … [Read more...] about A Trip Through Seaside Towns and Lakes of West Cumbria
