March Madness: FAU, UConn through to Final Four; who’s next?

March 26, 2023 by www.denverpost.com Leave a Comment

By The Associated Press March Madness is wrapping up the Elite Eight, and No. 1 seeds are nowhere to be found. Instead, Florida Atlantic became the lowest-ever seed to make the Final Four after beating Kansas State. And UConn’s back in the Final Four for the first time in nine years. There’ve been millions of busted brackets — and more games to come. Here is what to know: GAMES TO WATCH No. 5 San Diego State (30-6) vs. No. 6 Creighton (24-12), Sunday, 2:20 p.m. (CBS) A first trip to the Final Four awaits the winner of the South Region, and both used defense to secure their spot. The Aztecs stifled top-seeded Alabama’s All-American freshman Brandon Miller, blocked eight shots and forced 14 turnovers in a 71-64 victory. The Bluejays took out Princeton with a combination of 3-point shooting and a swarming second-half defense. Darrion Trammell sparked a go-ahead 12-0 run for San Diego State in the second half and the Aztecs hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to finish … [Read more...] about March Madness: FAU, UConn through to Final Four; who’s next?

Violent protests erupt in France with petrol bombs hurled at police van sparking explosion

March 25, 2023 by www.express.co.uk Leave a Comment

BREAKING: pic.twitter.com/rAJvgbHnp1 — Visegrád 24 (@visegrad24) March 25, 2023 More than 3000 police officers are set to confront up 1,500 “violent activists” from among a crowd of 10,000 protesters today. Explosive demostrations have already begun at Saint Solines in central France, where climate activists are staging a "high-risk" protest against new agricultural irrigation infrastructure. The protest is distinct from the pension reform outcry that has blighted the country and seen widespread violence. Despite the global focus on the pension reform demonstrations, reports suggest that the police's greatest concern is the Saint Solines protest. Video footage from the scene shows protesters throwing petrol bombs and burning police vehicles. Flying objects pepper the battered line of vehicles as smoke billows into the air. More info Ten years ago today — March 26 — Queen Elizabeth II made history by changing the law to make the monarchy a more equal institution. In 2013, she gave royal assent to the Succession to the Crown Act, meaning both sons and daughters of any future British monarch would have an equal right to the throne. The late Queen herself was able to ascend the throne only because her father had two daughters and no sons. Had he a male heir, Elizabeth would have been skipped over in favour of her brother. Thanks to the Crown Act, this is no longer the case, particularly affecting the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales: Prince George , nine, … [Read more...] about Modern royalty: George, Charlotte and Louis tipped to head monarchy as a ‘collective’

Bottle or can? Scientists finally settle the debate on which vessels keep BEER fresher for longer – with surprising results

March 26, 2023 by www.dailymail.co.uk Leave a Comment

For many of us, there's nothing like a crisp, cool pint to celebrate making it to the end of a long week. But this sacred ritual can quickly be ruined if, after you crack open the can or pop open the bottle, the beer inside tastes stale. Fortunately, scientists at Colorado State University are on the case, and have been researching what vessel is best at keeping the liquid inside fresh. They opened up bottles and cans of different ales every two weeks over a six month period, and tested their contents for the tasty compounds that remained. They found that amber ales, like Doom Bar and London Pride, retain their flavour for longer in a bottle than a can. However, for an Indian pale ale (IPA), like Brewdog Punk IPA, the vessel it is stored in does not make a difference to its freshness. TikTok Women’s Six Nations will see England try to put World Cup heartbreak behind them as Sarah Hunter bids farewell

March 24, 2023 by www.thesun.co.uk Leave a Comment

RAF officer Amy Cokayne is hoping for an England Women’s TikTok Six Nation take-off - to help prove the Red Roses’ World Cup heartbreak has been consigned to history. Cokayne and the rest of Simon Middleton’s side face Scotland at Newcastle in their first outing since the devastating loss to New Zealand in November. It will be an emotional afternoon, with co-captain Sarah Hunter calling time on her career after 141 England appearances. But for the England hooker - whose full name of Amy Victoria Fiona Cokayne gives away her father’s love of Aston Villa - getting back on the pitch is the perfect way to focus on the future, not the past. Cokayne said: “We had a review camp after the World Cup , which involved no rugby, so that this is about a new group, a new focus and a new cycle for the next World Cup. “I was always going to do one more cycle because the opportunity of having a home World Cup coming up was something that would be pretty tough to miss.” … [Read more...] about TikTok Women’s Six Nations will see England try to put World Cup heartbreak behind them as Sarah Hunter bids farewell
